Necro branch out, selection.

What if Necro class got turned into a selection class.

This way we could have the regular Necro class, with pets and that nightmare of logistics. (PET-Necro)

And we could have a selection that was more mage and less Ranger (pet babysitter). (MAGE-Necro)

Just put raise dead as a selection for PET-Necro, and lets select some key spells for the new MAGE-Necro.

Lose:

Raize dead.

Mass invisibility

Strength Damned

Gain:

Some sort of meele defense, because you are a mage, and mages need time to land spells. You lost the Invocker like Meele damage.

Blur

Stone-skin, the real D&D stone skin not the -40AC buff.

Unholy link - absorbs 50% of damage received and sends it to pets. Since you only have the Golems this will be quite interesting.

Some insight on what weakness opponent has:

Analyze (the bard skill) as a savable spell that can be cast for distance.

Healing abilities, sort off.

  • Vampiric Drain boost.

  • Corpse Drain - Allow to drain a corpse to receive Corpse Level x 10 HP heal. Drain a L50 corpse get 500 HP back.

*** This should be watched out for a tonedown from feedback from PK ***

Offensive spells:

Some minor can trips. DEX weakning, INT weakning, CON weakning. DEX saves for Mental, INT for Mal, CON for afflictive. (Idea is to drop specific saves by casting another save class spell.)

Death Stare

A new damage spells that saves on Saving vs Mental.

"A terrorizing Undead appears before you an STARES at you. You panic as ZYX stare LACERATES you."

Heart grip.

A new damage spells that saves on Saving vs Malediction.

"You fell slight disconfort as an Ice grip takes hold of your heart. ZYX heart grip === Devastates === you."

And more spells to come...

Like Roting flesh!!!

Idea sounds fun. Some of the skills are WAY too OP.

I like the idea. It is very different. Personally I would like to see more classes for Illithid instead of just Necromancer. I know there is Psionicist but nothing other than a quest class. Maybe this would give them something extra instead of a new class.

EDIT: I agree with Foxx for once, some of those are overpowered and would need some tweaking. I understand this is only a rough draft but 500HP off one corpse even if it is level 50 is a bit much.

Yeah that is what I was thinking too. Not to mention that you can simply walk in town and kill a guard, then you have a level 50 corpse in less than a tick. Not to mention that you can be vampire touching him while you are killing him.

Only PC corpses, maybe? And call it 'Savage Feast?' And you get a percentage of their max hp before they died, let's say, 35%?

I dunno, I don't think branching out one specific school is a good idea. If it's going to be done, it should be done across the board (vokers, bmgs too) but that is a TON of work.

If you want custom options as a mage, try for psion

I don't think this is a good line of reasoning at all. Just because this suggestion is necro-specific doesn't mean that we couldn't do some work along the same lines to invokers and bmgs down the road, give each class extra options and paths to go down. I mean, it's not like we simultaneously implemented zerk paths and warrior lores, but I'd hardly say that those were bad ideas just because they came in at different times.

It's like saying that you'd like to cross the street, but because you can't jump it you don't see any point in just walking across.

got to love Pali's analogies.

I think this idea is on target with what FL needs...I would like to see every class with skill and/or spell selections...with that being said...some of the suggestions offered for the Mage-Necro (like corpse drain) are awesome, but would really need to be toned down...

maybe have the mage-necro not focus on zombies or golems at all...but on their own body...grafting parts and such...trying to gain immortality and overcome their own death... "shrug"

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a neat idea...but I think when it comes to classes right now, the player-base seems very interested in seeing a Neutral Qclass or a neutral-only class. Right now, I'd say mages are pretty balanced and don't need a lot of attention.

That's a better objection.

Just a reminder to not waste a good class, as it was done to Bards. If upping/alterations are made to a class, lets leave a selection for the old class.

INVOKER!

its INVOKER!

geesh that drives me crazy Mya.
