Hey all,
While piddlng with some character training while I don't have a reliable connection I've been playing with some ideas for a few classes. Monks are my first target, and I wanted to throw out some ideas to help spruce them up a bit (especially defensive stances) while removing the "luck" factor from the class. As it is now a monk can either be a powerhouse or a wimp in a fight depending in many ways on the luck factor.
Additional Skills:
-
Push - Just like a ninjas push, but active only in defensive empowerment. It makes alot of sense from an rp standpoint and I think could be a useful tool for a smart monk without being any sort of overpowering force.
-
Troll Stance - Defensive Empowerment: Gives the monk ogre-like regeneration and the benefits of a defensive stance. On double kick it does 1.5x normal damage.
-
Bow & Arrow Stance - Offensive Empowerment: Increased chance to penetrate defenses. On double kick there is a chance for a round of rake effect.
Modified Skills:
-
Buddha Stance - Double Kick has chance to dispel magic, and small chance to reverse spells when using mantis
-
Horse Stance - Double Kick has chance to shield cleave
General Changes:
-
Certain chakerahs currently do damage based on a percentage of the victim's current HP. I think we should flatten this out (though it makes fighting tough mobs more annoying) and have set damage for these strikes.
-
I think one of the biggest problems for the monk class is that every class is able to prepare their defenses to be 100% fully effective against them. Perhaps a way to empower their hands to be representative of the attack properties of other weapons?
-
Also, the dice for a monks weapon (his hands) are a bit too broad. The result is a widely varied damage range from attacks. I suggest either changing them to be a bit tighter while maintaining the same average (helps reduce the luck factor of the class) or offering a stance/chii level that does this for you.

Allow air thrash to hit players with mounted combat who aren't currently flying. As it is you can't trip and you can't thrash if they are mounted but not flying...somewhat lame.
Glad to hear feedback on this! I've got some notes for bards and a couple of other classes that are nearing completion as well.

While I'm not really in for MANY monk changes, I wanted to point out that your knowledge regarding mounted combat and thrash is wrong. When you thrash a mounted paladin, they're dismounted and you're able to trip them. So yes, you can thrash mounted combat paladins and trip them right after
Not so.
I thrashed a flying, mounted paladin.
It succeeded.
Then I tried to trip them and it said they're feet were not on the ground, so I thrashed again and it said they are not flying.

QFT. If you thrash a paladin who is flying and mounted, they can remount and they are no longer thrashable until they can fly again. Smart paladins simply don't fly against a monk.
Smart paladins just don't fly a lot period - heroism rules.
As for monks... I really like the buddha and horse stance suggestions. Bow and arrow... well, it sounds like what crane is supposed to do already, crane just does it with a massive hitroll increase. Troll stance sounds all right, and giving them push sounds good to me also.
1 sounds all right, though of course what that damage amount should be would need a bit of testing and tweaking (edit: actually, what they currently do when the enemy's at 50% should be pretty close to the mark, now that I think about it). 2 sounds a bit too strong... at least the classes that have lots of weapon selections now still have to get and hold on to useful weapons of that type, whereas the monk can have whatever he wants whenever he wants? I don't like it... unless you want to make it an offensive stance, in which case I'd be okay with it, as they'd be losing the benefits of using another stance instead. 3 I like. 4... I'm a bit torn on 4, but that's just because I loves me my paladins.
Sounds okay.
