Scribe scroll (magic) for mages.

The thread on Arrow made me remenber the scribe scrolls skill.

What if all mages (Invocker, Battlemage, Necromancer) could scribe any of their spells into a scroll ?

For example, a BMG could scribe the Sear spell, and would get a:

Object 'Sear Battlemage' is type scroll, material paper.

Extra flags: none.

Weight is 0, value is 4500, level is 45.

Level 45 spells of: 'Sear'

You have a feeling only a battlemage can use it.

Of course, scribe would have a mana cost perhaps equal to Spell cost x10.

So scribing a Sear scroll would cost you 350 mana.

This has a very interesting RP potential. Affects PK little as you cannot recite scrolls in combat, only open with them.

And this appears to me easy to code.

Just a check if Mage has spells >1%, if it's a spell, and just poping fields into a scroll.

that sounds pretty cool actually dangerous but cool and thats why i like this game because if prepared you can be the best without the best equiptment... its all about being prepared and having a plan.. i think this would be a pretty good idea

So, the only benefit will be to decrease the lag from spells?

With such a penalty I think it will be OK. But I like more the idea of expanding and creating a new class that casts spells via scrolls. They ofcourse will be able to read scrolls in combat.

what about scribing scrolls and letting other classes use them? like a bard or something

Oh but ofcourse, then clerics will be able to open with level 55 hellsream and will have much less lag than the usual spell takes.

Great idea Mya! Make the scrolls rare and I'd say ok. Powerful spells with no lag are dangerous in abundance, even if you need to open combat.

You always get 1 round of Lag when you open combat, right?

So lag problems only affect spells with high lag times.

This would not affect Invocker, since they can cast faster than scrolls.

Would affect some Battlemages spells that are 1.5 rounds (Sear,Slow,...)

Rare scrolls for High Level spells is interesting.

But I prefer common scrolls for the rest of spells, so that I can stuff a backpack full of "Lightningbolt" or "Colour Sprays". HAa that would fun!!!

So...lemme see....sequencer + scrolls for a battlemage? Hmmm...nifty way to stock up on necessary spells like slow, shields, enlarge, etc...for a battlemage...keep them buffed and focused more on their offensive spells..

No to this one.

haha, I agree. that plus sequencer makes battlemages always ready. if they can just keep recasting their spells for free (they paid in mana earlier) you'll never get what you need to get done to kill them. how are you going to drain a battlemages mana if he doesn't have to frequently use it in upkeep? Hello sear/colour spray spam.

  1. My battlemage is always ready.

  2. Scrolls spells also take unkeep. Infact BMG spell unkeep is a pain, slowly poisoning you mana regen.

  3. You cannot spam scrolls, you need to not be engaged to recite a scroll.

  4. What is wrong with 10 scrolls of slow?

  5. Did you know that you can use Sequencer when Silenced? Store a Word of Recall and a Force Field.

Ok, I wield. Make all scrolls Rares. Except Spells lower or equals to Level 15.

That way I can exterminate sapplings with chill touch.

Rare scrolls make this extremely balanced. As you only get 4 scrolls. And I bet half of those are Tuo scrolls.

I could see having two scrolls on a Moderate invoker being really handy against DKs, a word of recall and a teleport maybe.

If you are silenced, you cannot recite scrolls.

That is why you should always have a potion of recall, and a Teleport Pill (at L50).

If you are having problems with Silence, you need to up your Mental protections.
