I think clans should be more than a waiting room for cabals, and could allow people a place they could thrive without having to join a cabal and get all 'bloodthirsty'. There's really no other way to play a caballed character without putting PK before RP which I believe slightly deteriorates from the overall environment. So with some brainstorming I have come up with a few ideas.
Implementing a few changes to clans could bring another aspect to the game and allow people to have a more enriching experience.
I propose that since nearly all clan-halls have a quartermaster or arms room type space, that we place a vendor there who sells customized equipment to the clan that is similar in grade to tainted/mithril with responsible level limits(not something I feel qualified to provide).
And have unique arm pieces or chest pieces be something obvious to show their affiliations like-
Robes embroidered with a Tower(in blue)
Leather armor painted with an Oak(in green)
Breastplate adorned with a Crown(light blue/gold)
Maybe even a pet vendor(nothing that bashes/dirts, just basics)
that have watered down versions of the cabal pets that are no longer used due to Cabals being exclusive to the 50s range(some people get it earlier, but from what i've noticed nearly all are within pk range of 50s)
Basically I'm proposing that we make clans watered down cabals minus the armies/(special vendor I'm not sure if I can mention here)/cabal powers.
Cabals would then have a more legitimate approach to determining who has shown that they are worthy for progression to the cabal. This would allow less aggressive players to show that they are allied with a cause without being forced due to coding to become PKers before RPers.
I love this idea!
Also, let's establish some non cabal feeder clans that offer similar things (nothing special, but an established way to declare identity) and maybe cabals even have the opportunity to recruit members from these other clans. We've all met those characters that we rank with and are like, "Damn, I want him in my main's cabal."
Non cabal feeder clans.. wouldn't factions fall under this idea? If not, could you elaborate?

Thanks. I just want to see if we can get some constructive ideas together to see if it'd be possible to make clans more than they are, to add a new dimension and flavor to the game.

As Jibber said, we already have those - factions.
On topic - this is one of the suggestions that make you go "Ehm...".
What exactly would it change? Its not that I am against, it just seems insignificant and would definetely take some time to come up with stats and code.
I prefer our coders working on fixing bugs and new important ideas to be honest.
That being said, the people who want to make an impression will make an impression, the people who don't will not, no matter what you implement. Also, making an impression should be by players' initiative, not some game mechanism.
The idea that PK comes before RP isn't necessarily true, speaking from a personal perspective (hint, you wanna-bes).
I try as often as I can to stalk and interact with prospective caballites before I consider induction. Remeber that cabals are not havens for the PK elite - they're groups for those who exemplify their ideals in both RP and PK.
That being said, I don't think anyone would be adverse to a look at the clans as they stand. There is a good deal of potential. Keep thinking.

Well I think the problem is that the PK is hard-coded and can become cumbersome and overwhelming for those who are not good at PK. This would allow them a chance to have a watered down taste of things that the cabals no longer use as well as allow the people who don't or can't deal with cabal warfare a chance to do something interesting. It just seems like clans have so much potential to be more than they are utilized as. I mean we all know RP can get you much more than anything else, so why not give tools to allow more RP opportunities.
