Locked Condeath bonus

So I was sitting here watching the spelltrain spam thinking, "Man I wish I didn't have to spend so much time training and ranking". I was also thinking that I really want to play this current to condeath. Told myself that before and bailed at around 30 deaths.

I have to think that the IMMs must sometimes get discouraged dumping time and energy into player X only to watch as he deletes prematurely for one reason or another.

My idea is to grant a player that actually condeaths a training/xp bonus on their next project. I do realize that this wouldn't be of much use to the vets that are able to play 700+ hours and still have 40+ lives left. But, well, they don't need it obviously.

Room for abuse, but I assume its not going to be too difficult for an IMM to know if someone is dying on purpose.

I had a similar thought once that we could with an application, advance our wounds and bring ourselves closer to condeath in return for a learning boost. I know someone will bring up that cabal members have a route to this end, but I am talking about selling your soul to the devil for greater power, regardless if you are in a cabal or just plain power hungry.

First idea requires an account system.

Second one is a shaky idea, cause people delete before they get 10 deaths.

I don't think it does require an account system:

When a player condies, output a screen that then allows a player to redirect to the character creation screen WITH bonus. They can then roll up a new character immediately to get the bonus.

I like that idea.

So, what is that going to change? H-elves got a bonus for faster training... does anyone feel that they are training faster?

For me this is just a pointless change that would be a waste of coding hours.

Besides, there would be like one or two people who would really ever get to condeath.

Someone's smug...

I definitely notice that training goes MUCH faster with half-elf or sickly. And, for coding purposes, it wouldn't actually take that much work. A boolean added to the rolling code for bonus/nobonus, a few lines of text offering to re-roll with the bonus, and a bonus boolean with some modifications to certain IF statements that apply the bonus in certain situations.

Like someone said earlier: If you don't die that much it's not a big deal to you. I don't think I've ever seen a con-death with my characters, but it would be a cool way to reward someone seeing it through to the end.

IDEA: What if you were able to preserve common skill levels (like a remort) between lives if you con-die and roll with this system? THAT would be alot more coding, but a great bonus for people who see it through to the end.

The idea was encourage players to play their character all the way out. Maybe I'm the only one in this boat but I've played a lot of characters a little bit and then deleted them for some stupid reason. Usually out of frustration. I've wasted a lot of time ranking and training for nothing, wasted IMMs time reading my descriptions, wasted IMMs time that have helped me think up RP for my characters since I suck at it (thanks btw).

If I had just stuck it out, I'd probably be okay at a few classes instead of completely sucking at them all because of early deletions.

If I'm in the minority here then yeah, I agree, it would be better to spend that coding time on something that would affect the masses.

Either way, I don't think there would be much coding involved to make it happen.

I guess I am the only one who thinks that players should play their characters only if they enjoy them and not for some bonus for their new project...

ehh, I don't think he's suggesting that mindset. While I'm sure some would, I think it would be a cool thing to implement. There's not real way to tell unless it's done, but maybe doing this would encourage people (even for the bonus) to go to condeath. If you go to condeath, without boosting - obviously you're going to get caught - that alone will guarantee more interactions. More fights. More RP. Thus, more experience to the game. :/ just my two cents.

If anything like this should be implemented it should be tied in some way to pk deaths not mob deaths. Or maybe a way to check how many mob deaths vs how many pk deaths. I like the idea all around as it does encourage people to put some real time and thought into their chars. That said I have only condeathed one char here, it took me about 500 hours a LONG time ago, lol.

I like the preserve skillset idea.

Here is my 2c: I really like this. Since we have the remort code already written it wouldn't be that hard. To transfer the reward, a one time only code is produced upon PDEATH. That code could be entered upon character creation once and recall the memory into the next 'generation'.

I like the preserve skillset idea.

That would be the worst thing that can happen to this mud. Not only that, but there you will be creating a gap betweeen people who haven't remorted and those who have, making remorting a must wich will lead to a lot of cheap "naked" deaths. Remorting (while keeping some of the previous skills) will swing balance in an unpredictable direction, and unpredictable things ain't good.

Please, do not be NAIVE. I know your intention is good, but this will be abused to no end. I can think of thousand ways how to cheat it and not get caught.

f0xx you gotta LOOK before you sit down. There are sticks everywhere.

I am sorry, I don't understand, what is that supposed to mean

It's ok. pat pat

I don't mind spamming this suggestion to no end so it can be forgotten

Go to sleep, crazy lady...

how would this swing balance at all?? You keep common skills with your next character at the same level. The only thing it does is allow you to spend less time training on the next character. If you're aulian, of course, you never have to train again!

Balance wise it's an absolute non factor. The biggest advantage possible would be going warrior to monk for weapon masteries, and even that isn't all too great.

I think I've said this before, foxx, but please stop finding a way to insult the person you reply to in nearly every post. It doesn't make you look good, and it creates annoying side-tracks to every conversation. You carry the same tone from forum to game, and it is very much a grating experience.

foxx. I've been watching your posts for a while now.

Please chill out. You are being unnecessarily hostile and aggressive in quite a few of your recent posts.
