Illithiad (Squids) open for Battlemage.

I think Illithiads, or as we afectuanly call them Squids, are a very RP interesting Race. They have strong Mechanic bonus that not also enhance PK but also RP.

Mental Projection - the speak thing.

They do not use Weapons!!! -> Big thing for a Mage.

Alien Morphology ->

Brain Eating -> So cool.

Leach!!! -> This is so cool. Geting Hellstream from a Invoker is

Cone!!! -> Kick *** Kamehameha Mental Bolt, even if it fails 99%.

Hive Hometown -> So alien.

Light Vulnerability- > Interesting.

Shock: Cool, but i can live without it. But then again they pop like a plasma beast.

But they are plagued by a HUGE fault.

They Can only Be Necromancers.

Necromancers is the most awful damned Class in the game. It's a class that is dependent on lugging around a bunch of dead brains that leave you alone the moment you die or someone cast isolate on you.

It's the most awful class to play.

They can be Psions, but frankly, the getting a Qclass is to hard even for veteran players.

So I suggest we opent he Class to Battlemages as an Experiment. And see how it goes.

Lots of changes are going underway, this would be a great innovation.

Can a Squid be Powerful as a Battlemage ? Yes.

Overpowering ? I think not.

Battlemages are a Class that as Shamans requires some finesse to play.

It will be something akin to a Ogre Warrior/Ranger.

Newbies will do nicely with it. But die often in PK.

Veteran players will be average, and the Elite will Pawn...

The light Vulnerability can be troublesome due to a very good norem spear.

Battlemages defences are not what most of you think. Sure Terra shield is Very good. But the other ones are not. Land him on Water and he cannot parry himself out of a paper bag.

No flaming weapons, due to not using weapons. So there goes something very useful.

In the end as I said i forse this combo as a car with quick acceleration in the beginning that disapears at cruise velocity but that can slowly speed up to a very high speed if you have the talent to keep it steady.

This is why we have the ability to apply for such things. So the Immortals can gimp your skills to balance you out. I have not seen you or anyone else RP and apply yourselves to the battlemage guild as an illithid. Before we go throw open guild doors to a race, let us first see a member of said race desiring to get in. Both the guild and the game deserve a trial run, before such a change is made. I will be keeping my eye out for "your" illithid battlemage. You can do it.

thats a neat way to look at it .

I do not think that I have the skills necessary to apply for suck a restring.

Frankly, the dificulty bar is to high.

And with that I go hit a Bar.

Feel free to discuss the powers and lows of such a combo.

Thing is, immortals usually gimp you a bit too much

Thing is' date=' immortals usually gimp you a bit too much [/quote']Sometimes. As Croyvern, Malch let me keep 90% of my warrior skills. With a different drow who left the underdark, Eshaine really skinned me. The funny thing was Croyvern left Cycle for Compassion, the other always served the One only changed allignments. Depends on the particular immortals view of the situations and rp's I would imagine.

lol generally speaking the better your pk record the more you will lose.

And the more people will whine how OP your combo is.

If I was ever to create something out of the ordinary, I'd expect myself to be gimped to hell. And at that, I'd expect to be, probably, an RP exclusive character with a bit of PK depending on who wants to take a shot at me thinking I'm OP. I think I could pull off something like that, and enjoy it

Without warcry, or berzerk, minus the two weapons commonly used by drow priestesses. Few characters have been as much fun to play. I had literally dozens of known enemies. But an equal number of friends. RP>PK but will not stand alone. I would rather fight the gimp fight with a character playing a believable role, than a fair fight with half ^$$ RP.

Illithid could use another class maybe, but that would NOT be bmage. How would it make sense that someone who can't even wield a weapon would know something about dancing blade magic? No, thanks. Invoker would make more sense, but that might be OP.

Are you Kiding ?

Ever heard of Telekinesis ?

Battlemages are not insane skill fencing. Just moving ton heavy sharping in the air trying to hit something. Perhaps spin it a bit.

And Illithids can wield weapons. They just chose not to. Their minds/magic is a more usefull / powerfull weapon. That is why they use Telekinesis.

That combo would be very powerful. The ability to leech and cone of force would be deadly on a bmg. Plus they resist lightning, the main spell used to hurt the bmg with its massive ac.

I'd say allow it and see what happens. No BMG skills would allow them to cover their vuln (a squid invoker could), and they still have low hp. I don't think it would be hugely OP, if it was OP at all.

I was thinking that state of shock was a bit much for a class that can lay out a lot of damage opening with murder, but yeah, the bmg's vital spells would drop since they require mana upkeep. Maybe it isn't that OP after all. They would be powerful against mages/communers no doubt, but melees with the right weapons have potential to tool them.

Viri had this changed a long time ago. You cannot ever cover your vuln with mana shield as an invoker, if you have a vuln.

I think from an RP perspective it might be questionable to allow illithids to train as battlemages.

From what I read in the helpfiles, illithids rely totally on their psionic powers and view the practice of 'mere magic' as a weakness and something to be shunned. In fact, I'm pretty sure they hate it.

The only reason they allow the study of necromancy is because they're trying to investigate the undead, who are immune to many of their psychic abilities.

I just don't see them lowering themselves to common mages from an RP stand point.

I'm with Nekky. BMG illithid doesn't sound well RP wise.

Blasphemy...

Anyhow all Illithiads are Necromancers in FL, I see no reason for them to not be Battlemages.

And I see no reason for them to be
