I considered keeping this to myself for a long time, for I felt unsure if the Idea actually fit the Forsaken Lands dynamic for the Feral race. I would like to share it with you so that it should not go unheard. My Idea would be to change the "Temple of Syreb" into a new area we can call "Shadows' Maw, The Feral Den". I do not wish to build.
Brief History: In the shadows of the Volcano three powerful feral families met to discuss the fate of their kin. Great logging machines consumed their forest homes with a hunger that rivals a dragons. What fertile forest remained found itself plagued by large spiders who hoarded the best food for themselves. Rumors of a massive drow movement in the cities caused the feral hunters to exclaim food would be in short supply for all. After much deliberation, and more than one growl, the feral families decided that a settlement must be raised. While in truth the families cared little for one another, they all conceded that as the most powerful of their race it was their duty to insure the continuation of their species.
The times were feudal in the beginning, each family offering their strongest member as the best candidate to rule the new settlement. One night the three elders of each family came together and it was decided that the three champions would duel and the victor would be king. The families all chose to send the most powerful representative, for the family which won would inherit the throne. Adored by members of all families, a large ranger representing the Megabane family was expected to win. Representing the Sharpclaw family, a slender priest named Moerdar was by all accounts the second favorite. Despised by many, and hopelessly counted out, was the champion of the Poisonclaw family, a silent solo hunter named Shadow.
The three combatants met on the eastern slopes of the Volcano to settle the dispute over who should lead the settlement. When the battle began Moerdar began to pray. Snarrl and his beasts drew down on Shadow like dogs on a kitten. Just as Snarl and his beasts reached Shadow, they realized the ruse, and the decoy fell apart. Before Snarl could turn around he could sense something evil coming his way. Moerdar's spells tore into his soul as surely and as soon as the clerics claws tore into his face. The battle went back and forth between the cleric and the ranger until finaly the ranger fell dead. Moerdar, champion of the Sharpclaw family, slayer of Snarrl, never even got to adress the crowd. Shadow true to his name stepped from out of nowhere and cut the clerics throat. As the blood dripped slowly from Shadows blade, the horrified crowd stood silent enough to hear each drop splash. Suddenly the crowd roared in triumph for they knew that their king planned for the future. With the strength of the three families behind him, and a cunning assassins mind to guide them, Shadow and his army seized the underground temple once known as Syreb. In time the settlement grew into a small town that the ferals call Shadows' Maw. Proud, and prejudiced, the three families refused to intermarry, choosing instead to mate with the werewolves on the mountains. Rumors tell of a fued that will never end between the Sharpclaw and the Poisonclaw families, as the Sharpclaws feel they were cheated out of the throne.
New Hometown???
I support the idea of Feral hometown. I also am a huge advocate for each race having their hometown. Storms could be near caverns or out on dragon sea, ferals somewhere by forsaken lands, fires volcano. Etc etc.
I'll build it, since I can't really think up anything at the current moment (lots of stuff going on). If the IMMs will let me that is, I've already applied to build SOMETHING on the prayer forum.
If the IMMs want, I'm all for it.
Ferals don't live in Forests do they ? (I need to read the new help files.)
Didn't Viri said they where ferocious humans living in the Forsaken Lands (desert) that got tainted and changed by the chaos ?
But very good idea. You should built it.
Yeah...doesn't match the feral lifestyle and background very much. Read up!

As their is little edible food in the Forsaken Lands I always considered they hunted the lands east and west of their homes, with the destruction of Mt. Ranier the food supply was compromised. CURRENT events threaten the Feral's very existance. Even Minotaurs (who are deemed Chaotic without choice) have found reason in Aabahran to settle, why do we treat ferals diferently?
Because they are very, very, very psychologically and socially different from minotaurs. Feral don't settle because they are...fundamentally feral!
Feral are from the forsaken lands west of Miruvhor...rainer would have been too far...and the vast majority of them never leave the forsaken lands in the first place....for any reason.
Those that DO leave eek out an existence in the wilderness or as the scum of the cities...usually alone or extremely rarely in very small numbers...player characters are drawn from these two groups.
The common feral encountered outside the forsaken lands is basically limited to those played as PCs...they are THAT few in number. It also means that normal feral are on par with player chars in power...unlike normal humans or what not who are much weaker than players. That should give you an idea of the sheer survivability of the race. They are very dangerous individuals.
feral animals still sleep in dens with others of their kind.
I do think the feral vuln is quite easy to exploit, fire is quite a common thing for any to gather. DK fireball goes pew pew pew
Ac saves = DK fireball goes plink plink fail.
Ac saves = DK fireball goes plink plink fail.
I would have accepted this if it came from Mya, but come on dude...
That is true, the bigger AC saves you have the lower damage you take from fireball, it can even miss!
While I agree Ferals are hurt by fire, I fail to see the relationship between that fact and the intent of this post. Except to reiterate the point that the Feral race should seek permanent settlement underground to avoid any fire based catastrophy. Thanks to those of you who commented on topic, especially you Celerity, for you make a good point. In fact I think that in addition to the family feud going on in the settlement there should also be unrest between the people as to whether "settling" was the right Idea. The Navajo faced similar troubles a few hundred years back which caused a permanent split in the tribe, half settled in the Sierra/Navada's and the other half continued the nomadic lifestyle that carried them back and forth from California to Texas.
