Hey,
Should berserkers gain fired weapons?
Out of everyone, berserkers seem to be the sole class that has ZERO defense against this skill. None - they cannot access missile immunity nor can they fire back or block arrows.
The other melee classes (warrior and ranger) have the skill. Ninja's get the skill - yet berserkers are left without.
I suggest berserkers get fired weapons to help even them out. Yes, it gives them more punch, however, everyone else they would fight (with the exception of another berserker) has an answer to this.
Ideas?

PS - please don't give me 'How would you fire a bow while throwing a temper tantrum or in combat?' kind of answers. I'd like to see your warrior fire an arrow at me while I come at him with two daggers ie close range yet they still manage.
Give them fired swords, aka swordchuck.
There ya go, a weakened form of throw that is auto. Basic equivalent of fired weapons only better fitting for RP purposes.
Hehe, swordchucks. Maybe even give them options of thrown items? More accurate, less damage vs low accuracy, high damage stuff? I like the idea of giving them something, since L-A's pointed out they are the ONLY melee with no sort of fired weapons/fired weapons protection.
No, Zerks should not get Fired Weapons. Fired weapons are to much powerful at the moment.
But yes, i agree that they should get something. But in the form of defense.
Raged Zerks should plainly ignore Arrows.
"L.A. blinks and shrugs in ignorance as a arrow plucks into his back."
Bow cleave is a GREAT GREAT idea.
For me Cleave should work as Battlemages disarm spell.
You had only one skill and you could chose which one you wished to cleave:
Primary or Secundary
I like the idea of some sort of of throw like the ninjas/bards/thieves that works automatically like a bow.
Not just that, but I think it can even be made into a rage lore or something - one would icrease the power and decrease the accuracy and other would increase the accuracy and decrease the damage.
The throw could be working on the same principle on which throw for ninjas/thieves/bards works i.e. it would take the object from your inventory - this will have some kind of a balancing effect since the most powerful zerkers are those of giant race, and such races have low dex i.e. cannot carry many objects in their inventory so that will be a small downside.
Overall, I like the idea.
Let's not add more unblockable auto damage skills to the game.
Fired weapons is already over the top, if you do not have scrolls.
I even do not like Steel wall when i have to go against it.
Not to mention Fire/Ice shield, divine retribution (Ok, this one is balanced, can move with it...).

Fired weapons is not unblockable damage.
This is like saying that you cannot save against a blademaster critical like you can save against a shaman's spell. I used to believe that, untill I missed 8 criticals in a row while having 70 hitroll against a highly armored person.
Fired weapons IS blockable. The only class that cannot block it though, are zerkers.
So, wait... are zerks not doing enough damage already?
If they are, why the hell would we up the damage they do?

The point is, they aren't.

You fail your criticals cause you are playing one of those Alzheimer Dwarven Blademasters. Play a Elven Blademaster, and you will see the difference.
I can now see your Alzheimer struck Dwarven trying to hit a Elven Paladin mounted on a Goliath. "Haaa, darn. That pointy ears moved again."
There is a certain item that you can use that grants missile shield. Zerkers can use that shield.

No. Everyone else is doing more Damage due to Fired weapons.
Zerks just lost the bus.
The best idea is not to make zerks deal more damage, but to make them take less damage from it.
Some interesting ideas.
With regard to having arrows being 'unblockable' - I see one of two things happening for every class bar zerks:
-
Access to missile immunity.
-
Access to fired weapons - this means when shot at you shoot back.
Zerks get neither - and while I didn't say it before: By implication this means you can shoot at a zerk with zero reprecussions.
I don't know about giving them a blocking skills - blm's have a very specific one. I've never seen the warrior one. The other melee's have fired - why deny it to zerks? They don't have greater melee output than warrior or ranger. Yes, its another attack - but we are already dealing with this on vs other melees.
Bow cleave....that's a nice idea :-) I like breaking things.
Better still, make missile immunity a POTION so anyone can gain access to it. Solved :-P

PS - Mya, I didn't know there was an item for missile immune. However, I don't like the answer being 'you must have ONE piece of eq to stop that' That situation SUCKS. There should be an answer for everyone in this case.
I don't like having to pay 12000 gold coins for a missile immunity scroll that last so little time. If i wanted to play a Class dependent on consumables i would have played a Meele.
As it is, there is a huge difference fighting a Warrior with missile shield or without. I can go defensive with a Staff, and try to cast some mals, yet the dam bow will keep landing CAP's or better damage.

Hehe, Mya, just because you love playing clerics doesn't mean that clerics should have a spell that counters anything. You ARE dependent on consumables no matter what class you play. With mele, you are just more dependant.
This logic is that kind of distructive "This is OP" logic, and not the one that says, "I must get off my *** and actually put an effort to prepare for this fight."
Then Get more Dam Roll on your Zerks ?
Kidding. Realy Zerks could use something for Fired Weapons. But i do not thing it is fired weapons as a skill.

Them keep taking damage from bows. I don't like my melee's can't bash you to death either.
Making certain things possible but HARD is the point.
Lytholm.
Yea. Clerics get cure crit. Give me one person who would not choose cure crit over fired weapons.
raises hand. Looks around sheepishly, then proceeds to glare at Dey like he did it.
