you can still get all those effects without preserve...
If that is your logic why don't we give preserve to all meles? Not like rangers need buffing or something... besides if you can get all those affects why do you want preserve anyway?
The problem here is not getting the affects, it is fighting the consequences i.e. the addiction.
imo, addiction is almost as easy to handle as hunger.
Im just curious how preserve is going to lighten the consequences of addiction? Isn't that what the addict perk is for. And... I haven't been argueing for or against preserve at all.. I think it's a silly skill, that is more or less unneeded. How hard is it really, to find those blue herbs in val miran, and smoke them to combat addiction for 60 hours? Honestly... I mean, preserving the herbs doesn't really give you anything other than an increased length of time for which the herbs will stay smokeable. But you should be using the herbs libererally anyway, if your an addict, how often do they honestly go bad, before you have a chance to use them...same story with vials.
How about a level 35 pet? As far as I know 30 seems to be the max you can buy.
Well, first of all, they do diminish at a fairly quick rate if they are not preserved. Regardless of addiction, I am only discussing the ins and outs of the ability to preserve. I understand if the idea is for balance purposes, however, I cannot think of a viable argument that it is unbalanced for druids/rangers to have preserve. I was hoping for some ideas or reasons to that end.
As for the Archery thing, trust me Telufial, before rangers had paths, they rocked. It is all about choices you make with your race/class/cabal combo that will either aid or hamper your pk ability. If you were expecting to rock peoples socks off, and things did not turn out for the best, I would suggest modifying your tactics. The game has always been a struggle of balance. People complain if someone is using something that has been implemented for years, and finally someone has honed their skills at using said thing to a point they are beating nearly everybody, and people call it broken. Maybe it isn't, maybe it is just that you have to learn to counter what they are doing. In the instance of missile shield/archery, I think it is fine the way it is. Yeah, I fight a mage, I expect them to have missile shield up, if they don't, they are gonna suffer, plain and simple. So I will develop my tactics around knowing that. The best way to solve a problem, is to focus on the solution, not dwell on the problem, that will get you no where.
Maybe rangers/druids don't have preserve because they spend lots of time in the woods and get them fresh. Rogues hide in the cities where there are no herbs growing so they need to preserve them so they wont run out...
As for rangers I think Telufial is right. Noone is saying rangers are underpowered by any means, but it does seem like a silly choice to take archery since it is the easiest path to counter. It is however very useful for soloing tough areas....maybe that's the trade off?
If I made a ranger, I would pick archery hands down.
Rangers own casters/communers. They can have a tough time vs warriors. Archery turns the tide.
Ok. So my idea is to stop thieves from being able to loot from corpses at lvl 15. I have been yelled at many times for PKing while wearing a VERY nice suite of EQ. I don't think its fair that I should not be able to use all skills available to me to battle and kill. That is like telling a berserker at lvl 25 that he cannot rage because it makes him too strong. My idea is to give thieves a skill around lvl 39 called theft. After practicing the skill, they would be able to loot from any corpse. This would balance out the game a bit, and make it so lvl 15 thieves were not wearing this:
Edited - if you have a problem with a specific character post it on the prayer forums
I don't know how this idea page works, but contact me if you want.
Thanks
That was MY character!! Am I not allowed to post things about my own char on here?
Also please forgive me if I come off angry with this idea, but I DO NOT think lawful citizens are a good substitute for a Tribunal witnessing a crime. I have made quite a few enemies in the past few weeks, and because of this, "lawful" citizens are willing to lie about them seeing me commit a crime. I'm not saying that I didnt blackjack the guy, but I was HIDDEN the whole time, and "ogre ranger trib clan member" lied about seeing it. I think we should make it so that a tribunal can ONLY want a player if THEY see or hear the crime being committed.
Or lowbie thieves can just be decent (as players, guys) and maybe loot a couple of the nice pieces. They got goods, and can grin and walk away without some pinn who got full looted wanting them dead forever. Maybe?
I propose we stop starting flame wars on the forums.
K thx

Did I do a bad thing? I was just saying i'm going to take full advantage of any skill I get. I wasn't trying to flame or whatever it is, somebody told me the other day, not to get people mad or something. Worry not, Im not going to be offended by anything anyone says. somebody can call me a bad player/person if they want, its cool. I really thought the "theft" skill idea was a good one.
You posted your character's gear on the forums. You basically said "I have all this uber gear that I stole from people in a totally lame way." And then you whined that you couldn't PK with it.
Gee, I wonder why.
Ahh I see. Well I don't think its fair that I cant use EQ that I got fair and square. Why have a skill that allows me to gain the EQ, if I cant use it???
You can gain the EQ and hold onto it. You just can't use it to PK. Sounds plenty fair to me.
I do not agree. If I gain the EQ with a skill that I have, why should I not be able to use it? but I dont wish to pick a fight, just saying how I feel, and I think that the "theft" skill idea could remove this problem all together.

Seems those enemies did not appear by magic, and seem to be waiting in line for you to rank up a little bit
Should be interesting.
Actions = Consequences.
Well what I propose is the same thing. I don't think much needs to be changed, but I think it comes down to individual choice. It always does. This isn't bashing on the class itself, but it bugs me when every ranger and necro thinks he needs to full loot cause he has pets at the ready. Same reason you shouldn't sac mithril and onyx rings. Just think about what you're doing. I'm not flaming anyone or anything, just throwin this out there. You CAN gang and probably not get caught, does it mean you should? Maybe not... You CAN multi, use ooc tactics, etc, should you? Maybe not. Thieves are a class that steals. You CAN rob a dude that you didn't kill or even interact with, blind, or you... can take a piece or two and be on your way. It's up to you bro.
