How about some kind of command to sort your inventory/containers?
This would mostly be useful for cycling those nodrop/nouncurse items to the bottom of your inventory when your inventory is full of other nodrop things that you want to keep. That way the unwanteds will be purged on shift/logout.
Also good for for organizational purposes without having to drop things to rearrange them. Would also be useful for when you have many things that start with red and you just want to grab your potions. You inv might look like this:
(20) dark red potion
red dragon claws
a red bum
See how the potions are on top? So, we go ahead and "get red backpack"
You get a dark red potion from your backpack.##great!
How about one more? "get red backpack"
You get red dragon claws from your backpack <
That is because after you got that first potion, your backpack changed to this:
red dragon claws
a red bum
(19) dark red potion
That is because all the potions are unsorted in the inventory list in the backpack. This command could fix that.
...or just make a mob that eats eq I don't want and can't get rid of.
I've always wanted to suggest that! I agree completely.
Sounds more than reasonable to me.
I really like this idea as well, I think one of the most irritating things is when you are on the run, you go for a couple reds and you end up pulling out something completely useless, then they walk in and land blind.
I hope this is being looked into..
Double bump, because this is really awesome!!!
At the risk of sounding resistant to change, I must say that I find this idea to be wholly unnecessary. Instead of typing get red back, you can always type get 'red potion' back and it will do what you are seeking. You may then say "Wait, thats a lot to have to type in the heat of things!" in which case I would reply "set an alias". Playerkilling is as much preparation as it is tactics.

yeah, i like the idea too. needs to be a way to cycle nodrop/noremove stuff from inventory. this would help with rare circulation too I imagine

Which is in actuality an OOC abuse of mechanics, anyways.
So what you're saying is that if I accidentally pick up that blasted cursed helm (for example) when I meant to pick up another item on the ground, I should have no control over any of the items I lose because that would be "abuse"? So now I'm stuck with the helm until I die?
Frankly, the "who list" is OOC, because how the heck are you supposed to know anyone who you have never met before is a healer and at lvl 50? But then again, this is something that is already implemented, inventory sorting isn't, so we can claim it's OOC abuse, right?
I find that it is no giant leap for chars to know that they will lose items IG, and it just so happens that they always seems to lose the first one they stashed away (the one on the bottom of the inventory list). It would be no big surprise if I just "tactically" (as Malch put it) sorted my items so that the gods wouldn't strip me of that wicked weapon I've had for quite awhile, simply because I either picked up another cursed/noremove, or was given one.
Either way, it seems this has already been decided on anyways by the up and ups.
This is no more abuse than the OOC warning of "losing limited items" on quit and dropping the items I don't need..
The items definitely disappear in game, making that very IC. If I found a pattern to why my 'rare' items were 'magically' disappearing, the mechanic may be OOC (all mechanics are btw), but it certainly not ABUSE to use that. The character who is sorting is IC, the items are IC, the disappearing is IC...which part is OOC exactly?
If sorting your eq is OOC abuse, maybe our rares should disappear randomly (instead of an abusable pre-determined order) to prevent such abuse?
THe way I see it picking up that cursed helm was a mistake. That helm is cursed for a reason. So you should not be able to get rid of it at your conveniance. It is a CURSED item. CURSED. If you have not figured out ways to sort through your inventory, then I do not think the imms should hehe. There are many tricks to force yourself to get rid of specific items in your inventory, you just have to figure them out. THe idea in itself is not so much useful, as it is lazy. It is my personal opinion that the time spent coding this could be spent MUCH better in other areas. Like crusaders
(that is supposed to be a joke, not a knock at anyone hehe)
Although it pains me to say this... I see your point emp...
Crap, now I need a bath.

Not 100% Random... Maybe just the more your logged in the more your % goes down... but never 100% safe.
I really like the idea of sorting inventory. I also like the ability to add columns to your inventory, -OR- groupings, eg.
You are carrying:
Weapons
a hammer
Armor
the platinum helmet
a rusted iron shield
Other
an adventurer's lantern
I also like the idea of random purging. Players should not be able to manipulate the way rares are purged.
