Why is there even a rolling system?
Rolling system
I would kind of agree, since almost all of us have rolling triggers and rollers to get the max roll/max-1 all the rolling really seems to do is hurt new players.
To give me time to write a description.
In my opinion, this is something that should have been removed some time ago. It serves no grand purpose, beyond giving newer players lower starting stats than vets who used stat rollers.
To remove the rolling of stats would not only make the experience for a new player faster, and easier, it would also make vet's life easier when making a new character.
"Rolling" a character shouldn't take hours...half an hour, or even more than 5 minutes.
I've seen other muds remove this and it works swimmingly.
I still find rolling satisfying. Call me crazy. I just call me old school.

I haz non-wepon profizency?

Its okay, we'll make you roll by hand when you attack with a weapon as well. It'll be awesome ![]()
Yeah it dawned on my the other day, shouldnt all races just get a permament roll to start with, or atleast make it easier. But like it was said, everyone does already have triggers for rolling. -shrugs-
I personally like the rolling system, besides, why fix something that ain't broken?
For the sake of newbs who don't know that 38 is a horrible score.
I think it's a good part of the mud, it's always been there, and I've never really had any problems with it. Don't you feel that satisfaction when you get a 56 when you were only rolling for a 55?

No, not really, heh. I feel like, wow, I can't believe I have to sit here and waste time of this.
The very idea that this is challenging is that "its always been there." So when you come up with an idea that is saying, at its root, that it having always been there is perhaps the thing that shouldn't be....it having always been there no longer should be the driving reason for it to remain so.
The correlation is obvious but I'm going to make it anyway. You have to roll for the same reason you start out at level 1/50.
There's a greater sense of a complete creation when you invest time into the character. Rolling, in this point, is as important as a description.
In the grand scheme of things ten minutes spent rolling doesn't compare to the hundreds of hours you'll spend playing the character.
Newbies are always going to make mistakes. I wrote an essay on character creation. There's notes in the wiki on race maxes. There's a thread in the newbie section with the maxes.
Instead of doing away with rolling to address this issue someone could make a note in the mud during character creation suggesting a roll to shoot for - that's the only place without help.
I've left 3 chars of the same race/class rolling for an hour and didn't get the max roll. Honestly, I'll settle for a 50 with any race I normally play, now anyways.
I agree very strongly with Mattamue's analysis. How low a roll you're willing to take is your first bit of investment in the character. You could also ask why not start with all skills at 100, because newbs aren't going to know the training areas or even that training is important in the first place... it's the same reason. Time spent on creating a character attaches you to the character and makes you more willing to stick with it path the inevitable bumps in the road.
