Guild Leaders

I was having a wee think - as I find myself with more time to do so these days and something struck me as an interesting idea.

Help Guild Leader

A guild leader is a mortal, born and adept within the guilds of Aabahran more

then the common member. Not only is he adept in his guild but he shows a

deeper understanding as to the nature of the guild, and as such has been

selected from the masses by the Immortals to teach those less fortunate

within the guild.

By being a guild leader you gain no advantages or supernatural powers, merely

you are betowed with a greater responsibility and are appropriately titled by

the Gods so that you are easily recognisable.

Such a position is completely voluntary and may be applied for or given

should any immortal deem you truely. If you feel that you embody all that

your guild represents, scribe an application to Immortal, a wornd you will be

judged accordingly. But be wary... For the Immortals do not take failure or

false convictions lightly.

Role:

It will be someone who is basically a helper. A mortal ofcourse, with no other purpose then that they would like to be idenitified not only as the best of the guild (relative) but also someone who is willing to help those younger and less wise then them. Fundamental understanding of the skills and tactics obviously needed to do a proper job, as well as; in some cases, a good understanding of equipment and the general layout of the lands.

I envision this is what HERO'S were meant to be, but the PK shield screwed the idea. *

  1. Help people who are struggling within their guild.

  2. Give pointers and what not.

  3. Help with eq - pointing out whats best for the class and so forth.

  4. Help with quests and the likes (guild quests.)

  5. Generally be available for newer players to ask questions of. (you take the position because you want to help the pbase, not wave your johnson.)

  6. Monitor the newbie channel

Good Points:

  1. Easily functional.

  2. Will not 'power up' anyone.

  3. will not conflict with 'cabal roles'.

  4. encourage knowledge sharing.

  5. get the newer players on their feet and learning.

  6. offer new RP opportunities.

  7. Does not require any coding (besides help file implementation.)

Bad Points:

  1. You tell me. Its too late to think.

So it's basically a Hero.

Without an extra level boost and pk shield.

I've actually thought in the past about the idea of having a mortal Guildmaster for each guild to strengthen the roleplay of actually being part of a guild, with basically the duties you outlined.

The main problem as I see it is that there are no sense of connnection or "brotherhood" between people in the same guild. And since the guilds are defined this way, it wouldn't really make sense to define leaders of the guild, when really they have no following/allegiance/respect.

Also, how would this work with multi-align guilds?

Although, to answer Calron's question...

No following/allegiance/respect could be remedied by allowing them to outcast members of their guild.

I wouldn't think multi-aligned guilds would really have a problem. The player determines their characters attitude towards different alignments, not the other way around.

I like the idea. Why were Heroes actually done away with? Abuse of position(s) of power?

Were they done away with or has nobody tried (or been worthy) to be one?

Not at all. Quite the opposite, actually. They were just deemed to add no value to the game.

They still exist, the IMMs just haven't given one out since Ergeth's Crusader... A-something.

Same way multi-aligned cabals and clans work?

And don't get me started on crusader warmasters. That makes as much sense to me as avatar warmasters.

But as for allegiance to guilds... why? I look at classes as professions, how many people get along with everyone that does the same job as them? My family has a tradition of silver smithing. We do get along with other silversmiths/jewelers/ect. But that's just our nature (Think of us as a family of Storm Giant, neutral goods). I've got a friend who is police officer. He hates a lot of other police officers.

I like this idea. But I'd like to see it where they can not be cabaled or have a religion that dictates they do things a certain way (purity, scourge, cycle, nature), actually, I like the idea of Heroes still, just ones that tell people tricks to learning their class.

I'll be damned if I'm going to listen to some level 50 elf warrior who was appointed to the top of my guild if I'm an Undead Warrior. Why would I? And if I was to be "outcast" for it? Well, no sir, I don't like it.

Cabals limit RP to certain actions, kind of. A nexus isn't going to sit down and chat with a knight about his day. However, I might. If a guild leader could tell you what to do, with failure to do it resulting in punishment, then how is this different from a cabal?

I dunno. I like Aluian's idea, I like old heroes. But I think they both need to be tweaked to work. However, I just can't figure out how it'd work.

On a side note, I'm very impressed with the amount of cabaled players on the newbie channel helping the lowbies/newbies out. It's pretty cool.

It was basically they decided they weren't really a helpful addition to the game in most cases. I think Behrens, or some IMP, posted at some point that with the size of the playerbase, he'd rather have one extra person at 50 than a person that can't do much. You can already help other chars as a 50, no need to be 51.

This would work Great for Paladins and Healers.

I like the idea.

And being outcast is not that bad form the PK aspect. Might limit a bit pre 50, but still.

I like it but I think I would call it Guild Master instead. Make them automatically members of the Academy. And ixnae on the outcasting. Although they could recommend it to IMMs.

Hrmmm I think you all kinda went scew. Lol

The way I see it is its just a player, like ... Morchial who is made the 'guild leader' and then people who WANT to can ASK him for advice and stuff like that. It DOESN'T boost the character in any way. They cant start ordering people around or the likes. Its purely a position given to players to HELP the player base. (Yes I know, for some of you it will be hard to put your johnsons down.) but thats the reason It would be given out by the immortals to someone they deem worthy enough not to let it go to their heads.

Its just an idea for players that are around anyway, to pick up some slack/relieve some of the duties of the immortals that they cannot fill due to time pressures and more important things aka coding and RP plots.

If it were just this, I'd find it amazing. More players need to do this in all respects of the game without a cool title.

Amen brethren.

My thoughts exactly A-guitarist.

I was thinking the title was more of a... Identifying factor. So that newer players know who to talk to.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see that. I think the title is a good idea. I'm afraid to ask some people questions for fear of getting a long verbal barrage of how I'm a nothing and a nobody. I'd rather just learn through trial and error than be told how much of a screw up I am. I think there should be a option to put a "niceguy" flag on yourself. That way everyone will know you're there to help.

[32 Demon War] Killicant the super nice, friendly demon guy.

Common, that would just rock!

But, seriously, the amount of rares and things I give away with my characters is insane. Tonight alone I've given away two rares and helped some people train on me. Of course, there are a few reasons I do this: Help a brotha out, and to make friends. You won't have to wrry about that pesky thief blackjacking you if you helped him get that nice, shiney dagger. Usually. Also, share some coveted info with a player and watch them adore you.
