You have discovered: Emerald forest! You gain 500 experience.
You have discovered: The workshop of Brambus! You gain 500 experience.*
You have discovered: The fantastic land of Avalon! You gain 500 experience.*
I feel like it would be good for players and may encourage them to explore The Forsaken Lands if experience became a reward for exploration. In addition, bigger awards and quest achievements would be given out to the player for every ten areas that are found.
Quest
You have filled out a large portion of your map! You gain 5000 experience.
Alternately, one could get an "explorer token" as a reward for discovering a set number of areas. These could be cashed in for practice weapons or other specialized items at the explorer's post. The more tokens you turn in, the better the item.
MINIGAME A different way to implement this would be to put 4 or 5 different check-points within an area. When all of them are used by the player, the exploration experience (or an explorer token) is awarded for that area. The checkpoints are randomly generated in an area when the mud resets.
Use checkpoint
You take a moment to gaze out over the lands. What a nice view from here! *
You have completed 3/5 checkpoints for the tainted valley!*
Or maybe add this to the Adventurer class.
I like this idea a lot! It is a good way to teach people the names of different areas, which isn't always available with look sky. (you are indoors) I also think that the more remote a place is, the more exp could be given. I think it should be available to all classes. I don't always remember what I learned as a healer when I play a ninja for areas/equipment/whatever.
I support this idea. Perhaps add a modified 'areas' command, to act as a sort of checklist for which areas you've explored and which you haven't. Maybe even have a version of the Master Questor title, something like Master Explorer, which will grant bonus move regen or something.
Instead of a 'Master Explorer' we could make it a quest. I dunno how many areas there are exactly, but for every 10 or so you find, a +1 to moves? This wouldn't be a bad little extra.
The idea sounds cool.
I don't know much about coding but it seems like it would be a lot of work for a very little reward in the end. I'm not sure the time it would take to implement this would be worth it. shrug
It wouldn't be very difficult...
Re: Mudder, just think of how many areas there are between Miruvhor and Val Miran, including the surrounding areas. I can think of 22 areas total you could pop in and out of in a good 3 minutes, just walking from Mir to Val.
I really like this idea a lot.

Really, that's what experience is anyway. If you're gaining knowledge about the lands, then you're gaining experience. Just like if you fail/succeed at a skill you're gaining experience.
This is a pretty kickass idea and would be great for new players.
As a side note, I just found out yesterday they moved or removed Shadar Logoth (forget what it's called on FL). I miss my thick animal hide and bandit belt
Items are still there, just renamed.
Fortress of S'handor is what it was called; the Volcano has replaced it. But yes, the hide and belt are still there.
Allright, guess I have some exploring to do
Sorry about this derailment - but I notice the player base is ALWAYS full of ideas they would like to see implemented. This is a good thing - but how many of you actually vote regularly?
No point in coding up lots of cool stuff if no-one is going to see it. We aren't Top10 and I know out pbase is big enough to vote us there.
Please dont turn this thread into one about whether you vote or not or the size of the pbase. Just vote everyday and keep quiet about it. The proof will come when we hit Top10.
Lytholm.
And remember, if we get there and stay there for a month... We ALL get to group up and gang malchy's characters (which he said he would reveal.) well worth the effort.
So are you saying if we get top 10, you will code this in?
Speaking of new players... Random little things added to the "Home page" of our website would make us look active and not scare away players. Seeing the last update "We swing back into action in 2005!"
While that was great then... It is 2008.
haha if its for all classes i will never have to "grind" through the first 15 ranks again!! especially with that xp.
heck, already I go from ~5 - 7 then ~10 to 12 on every character in doing the quests.
