This is a radical and somewhat off-the-wall suggestion, but what would happen if we instituted a PK limit, say of 60 PKs per character. After that your character would undergo the equivalent of condeath, but with a different message.
As a corollary, perhaps give everyone the mercy command.
This would radically change the MUD I know, but I'm just sort of curious about thinking about what it would be like.
Most chars condie before reaching this high a number. So what you would hit is basically long lived vet characters, esp. Syndicates as they must kill most of all cabals. It would lead to chars like Azantar, Rezian, Spisers Vamps, Messa, etc. to be gone long before they would be otherwise. As almost all of this type of character also happen to be excellent rpers I doubt it would really benefit the pbase.
Interesting point Eshaine. What if collecting bounties didn't count as PKills, much like captures?
My thought about this is that it would require people to think their PKills through more carefully, and role-play each one. OTOH, it sounds like most of the people PKing with no RP are not the ones getting more than 60. So the problem isn't excessive PK, it's a lack of quality play all around.

Look, as was pointed out to me today, the world (aabahran) that we play in these days is a daycare. I have complained recently alot about it, until someone pointed out to me the difference between 1.0 and now.
Back then people like LA would melt your face off twice before your could even enter in a command. 3.0 has made for some very good changes, including the reduction of PK amount simply through pbase awareness and other restrictions.
However we must remember that this mud, is infact a **PK mud **with enforced RP. Whilst we must all work together to create a better environment with richer RP, PK will always be one of the major driving forces behind that RP.
In the end, what it will really take is not doctrine implemented by the immortals and the implementors, but a fundemental understanding between players that that is where we want the mud to go. But the fact remains that this is indeed a PK mud and that remains a big reason why alot of people play here.
You're only suggesting it because none of your chars ever reach 60 kills.

not to mention that for a lot of characters they pk because they have a lot of enemies.
Certain races, for example get hunted heavily because of who they are.
Is it fair to penalize these races because they kill peopel who assault them?
I like the idea of everyone having the ability to use mercy... without having to take the perk.
There are good reasons not to give anyone the mercy ability. Just imagine dks running around with that... shudder. (They are one of the classes who can't choose the perk either. For some it also makes little rp sense.)
