20 Deaths / rare purge timer

This is going to be one of those ideas that might be a little contraversial, but I was kind of thinking about 20 deaths till condeath instead of the current 60.

Seems like players would be more cautious with who they attack and how frequiently they attacked if there was a smaller amount of deaths allowed. Also this would help recycle the rare/unique items that everyone seems to have for months at a time.

I also think it would be cool to have a way to purge rares if someone has played for less x hours over x period of time. Its kind of sad that unplayed characters can stash some of the rarer items in the game.

The way it is set up now, if i want to play a warrior and i know my bane is shamans, i could go out and get all the unique shaman gear on a character then log out and as long as that other character has the stuff...no shaman will be able to have unique items that they would like. this could be done to most classes in the game with a limited weapon/gear selection.

There is a rare purge at the end of every month, and a cabal kickout if you haven't played a certain amount of hours.

The exact time limits aren't revealed but they are reasonable amounts.

And moving deaths to 20 would only cause less experienced people (who die a lot more) to have to spend most of their time ranking rather than playing. The people always in great equipment would still have their characters a very long time.

The only characters of mine with more than 20 deaths lived 6-12 months in any case. Some of them weren't exactly 'careful' with who they attacked either.

Most of my characters are gone before taking 10 deaths.

L-A

I'm very similar to L-A on this one... my current char has about 100 hours on him, and he's taken only one death.

Learning to survive is a skill like any other. It doesn't help that you're playing a warrior, which is not a terribly survivable class until you get super-decked... then you're nearly unstoppable.

20 is WAY to short.

even with 60 lives people are already uber paranoid about getting killed.

wow....

There are reasons for that... I've been playing here for almost seven years, so I've got a ton of experience and know how far I can push things and when/how to retreat. I know how to equip, so I've usually got a pretty decent suit, which also enhances survivability. Also, I'm currently playing a very survivable combo, and from the start I've wanted this to be much more of an RP than PK char (no, not a Herald), so I usually don't go out looking for fights.

Now I know exactly who you are Pali.

shrugs Doesn't really bother me... I've not hid his identity too strongly. A lot of people seem able to recognize my chars... I guess I have a certain style with my RP.

Bahhh!!! ???

Look 20 deaths is completely unreasonable, for these reasons:

**1.) People who are fighting against massive odds (eg: reviving a cabal from the dead against mutiple foes) will no longer exist. **

Why train for the 30 hours it takes to condeath within a month?

2.) As far as the reward system goes in respect to tattoo's, induction to cabals, cabal promotions, any sort of reasonable character logevity...

All of this will need to change. Average character life is somewhere between 300-500 hours, with a few of the older players ussually hitting 600+ if they only play one main and stick with it

If the number of lives was reduced we would NEVER see a newer player reach any sort of cabal rank if they were not greatly fast tracked.

3.) Ranking time and living at 50 time.

A normal player will take about 100-150 hours (in these pbase conditions) to rank from rank 1 to rank 50 and be fully trained (excluding blam's and monks). If you are a newer player thats even longer.

Then you only have about another 60 hours or less to learn how to play the character before you condeath?! I mean thats averaging 1 death to every 3 hours, I'm pretty sure there are newer players out there who have a MUCH worse average in the first 20 or so of there deaths, before they get the hang of things.

4.) The purge system:

As of yet the purge system seems to be working alright. Those people maintaining there equipment are taking the correct steps in doing so, IE: sticking in the playing time.

Save for a few pieces of equipment (vorpal and solar mace) the equipment seems to be pretty available. I know because I'm forever doing gear runs for peope so there is alot of stuff around ALL the time. (I have a boring play time usually.)

Secondly - things are supposed to be rare? Not many around? Isnt that the point of it?

(ALTHOUGH I WILL ADMIT THERE IS SOME PROBLEM ATM WITH EQ DISRUPTING THE BALANCE OF PLAY.. [DISCLAIMER ])

Also as far as cabal's are concerned, You have a limit as to how long you can be away without written notice, and even then - I mean with Watchers we are at WAR. If I gather enough info about you not turning up I will warn you and then expel you. As will many other cabal elders/leaders/immortals. You are there to fight and to support the cabal. See that thats what you commit to doing

Conclusion:

As to respect of 20 lives per character? Impossible. I think that 60 is a good balance. Especially since ressurection has been changed from restoring that life. I can remember back in the day when evils lived half as long as the goods because they kept getting resurrected and the evils just got owned.

Its also impracticle for newer players and the reward system atm.

As for purging eq? Well its supposed to be rare anyway. And REALLY there are MANY substitutes out there that are NOT bad in any way. Sure they may not be shrouds of undead, cloaks of righteousness or the likes of that - but an eel cloak isnt a bad place to start
