'brandish'
Group Recall for Necro's
Oh, right. Haven't used staves in a long time ![]()
You can brandish whatever your holding while blinded...you have to be holding it though.
I have gone into battle against oponents I know will kick my butt holding an orb of recall many times. Of course, a smart necro should be using a variety of wands...one wand inparticular (and often not even thought of) is VERY potent in a necro's hands.
why do shamans get mass invis, and not regular invis?

The only communer in the game with any kind of invis spell. Don't know why it is called mass invis, but I figure the lag is the penalty for a communer getting the spell.
the mana is more too i think..always thought mass invis was odd for shaman myself.

Speaking of that...I think monks need the wand skill.
I always thought monks did have wand...and staves and scrolls...
Why would you ever make your homtown anything other than the hive?
Personally, I NEVER use the hive as my home. Why? Because there is only one way out of the hive, and it leads into the sewer. Being unable to dig, there is only one way out of the sewer.
Even if I battle someone on the dead sea and have to recall, by the time I am over the recall lag, get out of the hive, and get out of the sewer - any decent chaser will have caught up to me. And then, all he has to do is trap me and I have to go THROUGH him to get out.
If I am at a point where I had to recall to escape, there is no WAY I want to get caught without my pets and trapped. The hive = death.
Death, I say. ![]()
idk about fighting on the Dead Sea, if your opponent's hometown is not Miruvhor. even if he knows the way through the F.L. desert, you should be able to escape out of the hive/sewers/miruvhor before he shows up. that said, there are many situations where the hive recall traps you. then again, there are some things about the sewers that you can use if you're in this situation.
I like the Hive because chasing someone who knows the Sewers can be very dangerous. Especially when that someone has summon and knows where certain traps are.
After a recall, that came in a fight where you prolly have ran a bit, sometimes you wont even have moves to get through hive/sewers/miruvhor. Then you can't even try to run through your opponent. If you recall to hive, you could just as well recall to miruvhor, and gain a LOT of extra free run.
Edit: Didn't see Palis post. Yes, if you know sewers like the back of your hand, then it can be an advantage. Until your opponent does, as well. ![]()
If your opponent does, it can be an even better one... they might be unwilling to chase you into places they know are dangerous. Vryx hid behind a trap from three Tribs once, none of whom wished to try to actually come in after me because they knew the damage I could cause them to face in it. There was no risk of zombie loss... I could just recall out if I had to and return to get them later, knowing that nobody'd be stupid enough to run through the trap a half dozen times just to kill them.
You also have to add to the fact that most illithids won't recall until they go into shock. Which means drain, and a long time of it. Which is BAAAD to recall, and lose half your moves right there, when you aren't going to gain them back.

Recalling after you go into shock is a BIG mistake. For exactly the reason you mentioned.
Not to mention that you HAVE to use a stave or potion then, as you can't CAST to recall at that point.
And as a home base, if I am trying to escape, I would much rather recall to Miruhvor where I can very shortly flee to the underdark. Once I am in the Underdark, good luck following me unless you have track.
And Miruhvor -> Underdark is almost the same distance as Hive -> Miruhvor.
Unless someone else knows the underdark just as well as you do ![]()
The passages are quite clearly marked in sections if you take the time to learn them ![]()

This is true, however, there are also different passages that are marked either exactly, or nearly exactly, the same.
The central passage is easy to follow, but if you know where it branches off into areas that are labeled similarly, you can usually utilize one of those and the chaser has to guess which one it is.
As for myself, however, I usually combine the underdark with overland routes. As in, I run to a manhole, pop up, run overland to a different nearby manhole, and pop back int the underdark. Now I am in a completely different section of the underdark, and if my chaser had followed my exit, only drow and duergar will typically be able to follow my re-entry.
Usually if your running your adrenaline is up and you cant dig. If you have been running for so long that you can dig again, and they are still on your tail, then you arent doing a god job of running. If your running and you have not yet been attacked then your track would work I geuss.
I'm thinking more in terms of recalling and then running to the underdark. By the time recall lag has worn off and you make it to the underdark, if a player has caught back up to you by running to your recall point and chased you to the underdark, you can sometimes have gained enough time to re-enter.
I will say, however, that there are entrances to the underdark that anyone can use at any time, even with adrenaline. For example, one path I utilize is to run from Xymerria to Val Miran, Follow the river through Haon Dor and re-enter near the tree, which puts me on the OPPOSITE side of the underdark. It is then a very short distance from here to Marak. All of the 'legs' of that run are very short, making it difficult to chase, and you can hop-skip to the ends of the map.
