open only to war, ber, and mon. When you die or whenever else you find yourself naked, you can go visit the grizzled outfitter located in your guild or wherever he will be located. You pay 1 life, it doesnt actually kill you at that moment, just that 1 life is subtracted from your grand total and con loss will apply, if the life would have affected your con at that moment.
In return, your char is outfitted at about or slightly above the standard cabal outfit. Instead of an actual Outfitter mob/room, an alternative would be making it an Outfit skill attained at some point level 40-45.
Why is this useful? I sincerely believe people can have a lot of fun without worrying about his warrior's/berserker's/monk's conlife if he can at least get base gear at the cost of his life total. This would open up people actually playing the pure melee's with an option to play more freely, and yes they would condie somewhat faster. Also it's an option for a melee character to outfit himself in a situation where circumstances demand at least some base gear and he wants/needs to continue the session.
"But I'm Ub3R l33t and I can get base gear in 3 minutes
" To this I would say that choosing to outfit yourself has time and consequence advantages that even you guys would like.
What do you think?
Something like that would be useful for melee classes, but losing a life? C'mon.
I'd rather it be more along the lines of costing tons of gold.
Change the penalty. Throw something strange at them...like you are put into servitude by the grizzly whatever and have no recall for 100 hours. At the end of the 100 hours you owe him a substantial amount of gold, otherwise THEN he takes a life.
Maybe have a little floater get equipped on you like, "A watchful eye." And if you try to portal/recall/teleport away from the eye, you get, "Your attempts at escape only try your master's patience."
The cost could be paid for in gold at the end, but not satisfying his demands....or, by satisfying what he wants, which would be vengeance on the person that killed you, or some other similar task.
Just dont play pure melee and you will be fine
. I dont know how people have fun with those characters anyhow. I always find myself bored. The same kill, bash, bash, bash, death would seem to get boring to me. I like mages/clerics for the fact that they have lots of spells and different techniques at their disposal. Not that warriors dont have some varriance of technique, but not nearly as close.
flee bash bash bash is life at lvl 30. Right pali?
gawd. double post accidently.
Saying that bash bash bash is the way a warrior fights shows that you do not know how successful warriors fight. =P
Which is why I said I dont play melee. Although thats how I have always been dealt with on the opposing end of a warrior.

And when you were actually prepped for the fight and not massively out-eqed, how'd that work out for them?
I think it's too newbie friendly..
Any melee class can fully equip in under 10 minutes. Having EQ ready for them sometimes makes someone too suicidal coz they know they didn't work hard to equip (like the Halloween madness).
Whereas if time and effort was spent getting EQ, you'd know that character will think twice in engaging in PK.
Wasn't a bad idea though.
I dont think it's too newbie friendly seeing as how you cant access it before 40 anyway, and given the price you pay for it.
The advantages of this auto-equip as I see it are
1.)it reduces your exposure in the lands after a death. i.e., you dont have to go to the ford for a bracer twice, you dont have to go to the Whatever Canyon for a Whatever Necktie twice, etc etc. That means you dont have to travel the city/forest squares exposing yourself to further pdeath just to gain momentum again and instead you can immediately travel to get 1st Tier Equipment if the situation suits it.
2.)it can shorten your session length. you can at least somewhat recover from the huge char momentum loss by equipping this way, log off and eat the spaghetti that would have gotten cold, or play with your kids or talk to the spouse or whatever.
3.)it puts those extra lives to use. What I mean is that virtually no pure melee uses their char's 6- lives and condies. This tool could give that melee sustained session momentum that communers and some mages enjoy. And pure melee's deserve that!!!
As for the price of a life vs gold instead, I figure #3 answered that somewhat, and I'll add that since these three classes are also consumable dependent, they can use all their gold on those instead anyway.
I kinda like the idea of a shopkeeper or some kind of NPC that can offer you a choice between fighter, rogue, and c/c equipment. I say only for pinns though. The equipment should be about equal to the usual 20-30 suits, modest and non rare eq. I am unsure what the price should be... Maybe lots of gold? Loss of life seems a but harsh, and if it gets too complex it starts to defeat the purpose.
Any one heard of a bank locker? It is not uncommon for me to have an entire set of eq (sometimes extra pieces for a second set) in there that brings me right back into things if need be. The way the ghost is right now there is more than enough time to travel to your corpse, find there is nothing, go back to town, retrieve a full set and then heal. From there it is exceptionally easy to go about getting the rare things that would help and re-stash the eq as I take it off.
I don't like lockers particularly b/c of the fees. I always buy one, but if I ever stash it's for consumables and starstone. The message telling me I spent XX,XXX gold for tit bracers and such doesn't sit well with me. And also because it's yet another reason to fiddle in town.
I would use outfit specifically to sustain a session momentum without paying locker fees which is most of the time for consumables and starstone. If you don't play your melee like a future legacy character, you won't be worried about condeath very much and you can stay more competitive more of the time in the same way the majority of c/c 's can outfit base gear from one room for free. And everyone plays how they want, no one said the player ever has to use it if he doesn't want. The average deleted war/ber/mon probably has 30something lives left, maybe the average is even 40 who knows. I'm down for paying a life when I want to save 20 mins in requipping. Anyway this is all just random crap everyone knows wont be implemented, it's still fun to shoot the breeze here
Back in the day, cabal members could buy EQ from their cabal as well as had re-equip gear, if I remember correctly. That helped a lot, but it wasn't anything that great. Clans could offer a similar thing, nowadays, to make them a bit more fleshed out. Just a thought.
lockers r great unless u r an outlaw.
