desc checks... no more.

In fact.

Many of us here have been immortals so we know what it takes to either get that last bit of building in, or that last bit of code. ( I dont code fyi) But what of when we were lvl 94's or 54's 52's even have only the ability really to enforce rules (transing punishing) or Approve description.

So when its an all day thing sometimes you just scim and approve. Its not that hard for us to beileve that, that can happen.

Like I said before we've been immortals and we've got many on here who've played many chars from years and years ago who've come to know this mud well. So we can tell when things slip, I dont like this arguement on other threads about it being the players fault the pbase is bringing the mud down. Thats never a good sign when the Immortals point to the players and accuse. Tell your players they arent doing good and before someone tries to change they choose the path of least resistance and leave.

Im saying noobs...will leave when pushed to. I remember when there were many more than 40 players on at a time.

And when there was an average of 5-10. Lets not take the shortest route to a descision.

This kinda turned into something else...but it still pertains.

This is my opinion. Just realise that.

I actually thought I knew several of your characters because of that. I always look at descriptions of players and was astounded to see multiple characters with this sort of thing over the period of many of my characters, can't remember it off-hand at all but it was something like:

A sloped back forehead..something something...bushy eyebrows.something something...long hair frames his face..something something...

Seriously, I saw it a LOT. It was so obvious.

Dey

You hit the nail on the head. Sloped back forehead.

And yes, I have quit playing but I'm back for a few weeks, if I get denied or banned for that then I will just go do something else. I hate writing descs, I find it pointless and for me it can take days to write a decent one. And it's very dissapointing to write one and spend all that time just have it shot down because I am not a good description writer. Say what you want, dork.

I hate to multi post, but I agree with dale. What one immortal find a wonderfull descrtiption the other might makeyou change most of it. Its a personal preference that is and can be misunderstood negativity toward noobies when they have a problem with there description.

Unless you truely take time with a newbie over something that came from there imagination they can see it as offensive. One imm I can give props to is crypt wife she showed me how to use saymess. And I didnt even play this mud at the time. Id sign on here to get a lesson with alias and then sign off and use it somewhere else. Was a wonderfull teacher and never made you feel less of a _____

I love this guy.

For laughs, here is the desc which I will proboly never use again.

You set eyes on a figure easily recognized as a man. His forehead slopes

back giving his skull a round appearance. He has dark brown almost black

hair that seems to begin at a peak then drape behind his ears to just below

his shoulders. He looks upon the world through large black eyes bordered

above by sleek up slanting eyebrows. A long nose rests in the dead center

of his long face. A long, thick beard and mustache completes a facial profile.

He stands slightly over six feet tall and has a well-trained, athletic

physique . His body is evenly proportioned though his legs make up the bulk

of his height and are notably longer than his torso. He has a slim neck but

large muscles above the collar bones make it appear thicker than it actually

is. Broad shoulders and a wide chest lead down into a narrow abdominal and waist.

His legs thicken up yet remain fit and firm. Strong arms with large, long

fingered hands rest at his side. He is blessed with and balanced stance and

erect posture.

While light still gleams off his armor it has tarnished throughout time.

What once was bright now is dull, the once elegant colors now faded and

barely noticeable. A small satchel hangs from his belt heavy with gold.

Over his traveling wares hangs a short black cloak fastened at both

shoulders with dull red buckles. Woven within it is a light mail mesh

making it heavy and cumbersome. The hood of this cloak rests upon his

shoulders never hiding his face.

I'm pretty sure Eshaine knew this desc by heart.

Yeah I saw an elf get a dragon the other day.

First sentence in his desc, Towering over you is a male elf. WTF did the faerie god approve it?

Its takes you a day to write a good description????? WTF??? I've know ppl who have English as a second language who can do a better job than that.

What is your problem?

I've written a new description for all my characters save one (recycled from a previous character, at least I didnt' steal it). Guess which was the only time I didn't get the hp/mana/mv/xp for my desc? Karma I guess.

It takes me 10 - 20min MAX to knock out a description from a blank page to having it on the character. If an IMM is on add 10 - 60 seconds for approval depending on whether I've got a typo or not.

Oh, I figured out what your issue is - you never bothered to write a description, just stole others and wonder why you have so much trouble? Must be that karma thing again.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if you cheat and keep taking the path of least resistance there is a price to pay. That price, here as in life, is that you never amount to anything. You'll be a thieving cheat forever and it will take you 24+ hours to write fifteen lines of prose - something most people can do in the third grade.

If it seems I'm being unduly harsh - too bad. You're a cheat. IMHO you don't belong in FL. Why dont' you go play that other MUD that starts with an A. From your actions and attitude, I think you'll fit in better there.

L-A

PS - I can't stand cheats. They represent everything that is trying to suck all the fun out of FL.

I got a character banned before for bringing up a topic which ended up as cheating. Heck I never got caught doing it, and never saw it as cheating, but I brought it up and got banned without reprimand..

If stealing/reusing descs is considered cheating, the L-A is spot on.

I have written my own descs, and very good ones, it just takes a very long time because I am never satisfied with my writing. Also with writing apps, which I find easier but still tedious. I don't just go around stealing them. I write them, and reuse them if I can, changed ofcoarse.

And FYI I don't do that anymore. That was when I first started playing.

I've had pretty much every reward you can get (qrace/qclass, race restrings, custom titles, custom items, tattoos, etc), but I have never once received a dragon. Hell, I started a new character a bit back that had a pretty decent description (imho), and didn't even recieve the bonus hp/experience (I had it approved at level 1). Now I see other characters walking around with dragons, who have a description I don't think should have even been approved, much less rewarded. I think its just a matter of different standards for descriptions now. The three key rules I've always followed are:

  1. No actions. No "Before you stands.." or "A gnome dances merrily" or "after a flash, he is gone". All of these I have seen recently.

  2. No descriptions of equipment covered in your equipment list. Writing "he wears a set of crimson platemail blah blah" when you're wearing a fur jacket is not good. Exceptions are when you describe a worn item not covered by the equipment list, like piece of jewelry or something. Also excluded are general descriptions of equipment like "his armor is covered in blood".

  3. Finally, you should not have to scroll the window to be able to view all of the description and equipment list. A paragraph long description fits nicely with your equipment list on a single screen and requires no scrolling.

Of course, in the last week I have seen descriptions that break all three rules, yet they walk around with dragons. Times have changed.

. Times have changed.

Ditto. But not all for the bad A more loose fit of a staff is very welcomed. Nobody likes a strict enforcer.

But the scrolling this and the actions in description are a bit sad

I've never got a dragon but thats mainly because my descriptions suck and I can't rp for anything. Once I get good i'm going to earn a dragon. Inscribed posted some good guidelines for descriptions. But like he said he doesn't have a dragon either... he is probably just jealous of people who have learned to write and rp. I am jealous too.

I wrote a sonnet once for a desc, got a dragon for that
