I kind of like the idea - I'm thinking differently than just a locker system, though. Maybe have a small cottage type area that can be purchased by a player and have the front door be lockable and no-pass... however, it can be picked.
This way, it is a relatively safe place to go back to, rest up, store some belongings, etc. However, with the right ally, the house can be broken into, the chest picked, the goodies robbed - maybe even be able to more effectively sneak up and kill you when you think you are safe. Mwahaha...
I dunno, it just makes things more dynamic. With no rare storage, the loss of items with a successful break-in would be relatively minimal, and maybe you could upgrade to hire guards who watch over the strong room. Thieves and ninjas have to go vis to pick locks, right? And when the guard aggros on them, you may get a scroll or message that your home is being broken into - giving you the choice to finish whatever you are doing and rush back to TRY to defend it, hoping the individual is not done and gone...
And then, of course, you also have the other coin, where enemies can try to use breaking into your home to lure you to them. I dunno... might be kinda dynamic. Thoughts?
