Given that bards have the gotten the biggest revamp in a long time, I still want to suggest a bit of flavor for them:
Level 30 Profession
Select: Brawler, Singer, Dancer, Bard
Brawlers would get more melee oriented abilities, Weapon expertise, shadow strike-type things. Maybe another weapon, selected by the bard. They would lose some of their defensive songs, and maybe four seasons, and some spells. Along the lines of identify, word of recall.
Singers would have access to more songs, and maybe cast at +1 level. Both offensive, defensive, and maybe more maledictive type songs. They would lose third attack and maybe a spell or two.
Dancers would get some stance-type spells/skills/songs(would only affect them, obviously), and add two handed. They would lose more powerful songs and spells as well.
You could also choose to stay the way you were.
Eh? Eh?
I don't like them... They would pretty much gimp you no matter the choice.
I was kinda looking for discussion on it. It's mostly an RP type thing.
I like bards the way they are. They're a great rp tool and very viable in pk when put in the right hands.
I have more of a PK mind...
I find a good combo I want to try out and I find what RP could come of it.
Leave bards the way they are. They are meant to be singers, storytellers, diplomats and Heralds(not totally meaning the cabal)
.
Only thing i'd like to see with Bards (if the code is still there somewhere, just made inactive) would be for oldschool bards to be available as a reclass at 30. The same as Shamans/Healers. Old school Bards were VERY weak pk wise, and as such seemed to generate more RP as they weren't really a threat. Bards like Helmsley made people realise that Bards are now a PK class, capable of doing a lot of damage, and thus they don't seem to get the whole - oh look a bard, PK mode off, RP mode on, that they used to.
Ideally i'd like to see the whole RP mode on all the time, but we all know what with PK as competitive as it is, and how easy it is to die, whilst people stay IC, they don't stop to get into some indepth RP very often, unless they feel safe.
Call it minstrel - and change their class flag on the wholist - this would mean if people really want to make that unpowered RP character they can, but still leaves Bards as they are for those who want something with a little more punch,
There are haelers for that
Except healers can pack a punch.
I much prefer the current bards myself... the old bards were too weak, and I've personally always felt that as long as you have a PK by your name, you're a valid target no matter what class you are. Now, being a bard doesn't mean you're wearing a big "malform fodder" sign, and I prefer it that way.
Why don't we just giv ebards blackjack, esuna, heal, assassinate, study, envenom, traps, haymaker and haste. That should make them at least a little more pk viable.
Why does everyone think old school bards were so weak?
I stand by my words. Old school bards were a POWERHOUSE. They just required usage of very odd tactics.
Bards now are fine. They can absolutely destroy. I didnt fight much with dinkirus, but I was one throw away from taking out a WM in a duel, and I was playing a gnome bard...
