I know restrings give people lots of flexibility, but what about having an application function for rank 1 quest races? It would take a lot of work, especially to make it available through the actual game and not reliant on a forum or e-mail setup (though those would work as well). Perhaps when the character is made, they roll humans and can enter a mode that removes them from the game for everything but sending applications, so the name is active and the character rolled and all of that. They can log in to see if they have been approved, but can do nothing else until then.
Just a thought.
I don't understand what it'd be used for, could you clarify?
Do you mean like, so that applications for quest races (undead/demon etc.) are done at rank 1 without being able to do anything other than send an app to prove your worth? Or are you speaking just restrings? I'm a bit confused...

It would be for exclusive Races, stuff that is a 1- or 2-of at most in the realm. Legendary races, it would be. Nothing too ridiculous, like Titans or anything. I am sure the pbase can come up with something fun and balanced. Hell, Dragons seem easy enough to kill in FL, that would be viable.
It was just a random idea.

I still wish we had dragons with the same rarity you described...but I spose thats quest race/class
It would be a quest race, sort of. Requiring a very, VERY good application and getting a very scrutinous eye from the IMMs.

I see what you mean. A typical starting race (something you couldn't really apply for to be transformed into like the current Qraces are) that's given at rank 1 with a really good application - not as strong as a Qrace either.
I like the idea, actually.

Meh, I dunno. I say if you want a dragon, restring it up. You want a steam driven gnome transport? restring it up. Coding this in would take a LONG time. And it would be like when ferals came out, there would be 239482134124443242 of them all at once, then I think they would lose flavor. Getting rewards solely based on your writing skills is what app rewards are for, as well as the ultra satisfying roleplay rewards.
edit: Nevermind, had to re-read the first post.
Wait...so you want to be able to apply to be an actual mob race?
Since there can't be 239582134124443242 of them, it won't be too bad. Restrings can only take things so far, especially with skills/spells and Races outside of the norm. A Giant-sized flyer with high INT and CON isn't happening, so any restring to Dragon never has the right flavor. Due to the nature of legendary creatures, it would need to be app driven, since you can't very well go from an Elf to a Dragon, now can you?
Sure, this would favor good writers, but perhaps it can include an OOC "What characters have you played" or something. I dunno, again, I would just like to see more specialized character creations, to give the game a bit more flavor. They would be balanced like any other race/class, but would be more like Vampires (a race and a class rolled into one), just handlded differently at creation.

An application is not enough basis to judge if someone should be given a qrace/class. So, not a good idea.
Well, the only other solution to specialty Races would be the allowance of some stat changes. I doubt that would happen, though, even if it could be balanced.

It it is for RP purposes, you could always go for a restring.
Whoa there, tiger. I have had plenty of QRaces and stuff, so no need to get all pissy. It was just an idea, more is usually better when it comes to options on a MUD. I swear, L-A, you don't need to be a douche about a rough idea. It isn't like I was bashing the MUD for having no options or anything. Jeez.
@TheNewGuy - Yea, I have had a ton. Probably more than most. I use those for RP and try hard to get them nearest my chosen race, but that doesn't always work. Besides, the unique stuff is always cool. I think the best example are Dragons, a race that would need to be balanced to function properly.
As said, modifications could happen easily without a change to balance. Breath weapons, flying, and things of that nature, when balanced with drawbacks, would make for a bit of extra customization.
If you want different stats, play a different race. If you don't like the races, start your own MUD.
You do realise that stats are like they are for a reason don't you? Its called balance. Something that is rather important on a PK MUD...
BTW - we have speciality races, they are called undead, demon and avatar. Try them out somemtime.
