Another new class idea: Illusionist

Had an idea for this class, tell me what you think. Obviously most of the spells would be mental spells and could be saved against and would he harder to land on high intellect races. I figure as far as what races could be this class it would be: Human, Elf, Drow, Faerie, Illithid, Avian, Half-Elf, Gnome.

backstrike

syntax:backstrike

when in combat an illusionist can create an exact replica of himself long enough to sneak around behind his opponent. The combat round following a succesfull backstrike makes it very unlikely for the illusionist to get hit and very unlikely for his opponent to avoid being hit.

quickstrike

syntax:automatic

when an illusionist has his image distorted he can strike quickly at his opponent when they miss an attack . see distort image.

masked blow

syntax:automatic

a skilled illusionist can make the fake look real and also the real look fake. Using the latter methods they can sometimes hit their opponents with a blow that is never seen coming until it is too late.

fools gold

syntax: foolsgold

an illusionist can capitalize on it's opponents greed by leaving what appears to be a pile of gold coins on the floor. When the unsuspecting foe tries to pick it up they will burn their primary hand, rendering it useless for several hours. Only those in range of the illusionist can see this fools gold and try to pick it up.

mimic race

syntax: mimic

a skilled illusionist can not only disguise themselves as most classes, but can alter how others see them racially. Of course this is just an illusion and the illusionist would never gain perks or disadvantages of said race.

spikes

syntax:spikes

using their abilities to mask reality, an illusionist can leave a trap of spikes for their opponent to stumble into causing significant damage and possibly injuring the legs of their opponent. Spikes are not discernable to the naked eye, only one who both detects invisible and detects traps can see the spikes comin and attempt to avoid them.

fake trap

syntax: faketrap

Using their opponents uncertainty against them a clever illusionist can create a fake yet intricate looking trap. When someone attempts to defuse it they might find it takes them a little longer than usual.

clone

syntax: clone

Being masters of altering reality an illusionist at their peak can make themselves look exactly like any other hero in the world, of course this is a difficult process which takes much time, and once the effects wear off the illusionist must wait some time before attempting such a feat again. (would make you look the same as hwo you cloned on who, and in the room you would have the same title, but different eq, no pets, and you wouldnt respond to the cloned name. But if you sent a tell cloned they would see the fake name)

project image

syntax: cast 'project image'

When an illusionist projects his image it creates a couple of false copies of himself that not only follow him around but appear randomly in any room adjacent to the one he is in, excluding rooms with blocked passage. As the illusionist raises in power, more images are projected, but never more than one room away. Any enemy that attempts to strike at the illusionist will be penalized with a loss of momentum if they strike at one of the copies.

confusion

syntax: cast 'confusion'

Weaving a web of falsehood a confused victim will be quite disoriented, their world virtualy becomes upsidedown and whatever direction they try to go in will end up being the opposite. In combat a confused opponent will also hit less often.

maggot swarm

syntax: cast 'maggot swarm'

If the target is successfuly fooled, they will believe that a horde of maggots is crawling all over their bodies. Most would panic in a case like this and immediately they would stop using any weapons or shields and begin to scratch and claw at themselves in hope to get the bugs off them. While under this illusion the victim cant use their hands to wield anything and if the scratching goes on too long, they could begin to bleed.

distort image

syntax: cast 'distort image'

When the illusionists image is distorted they become harder to hit in combat, also having a slight chance to avoid bashes and trips coming their way. Having their image distorted also allows them to quickly strike their opponents if a missed attack occurs due to the distortion. see quickstrike

stone rain

syntax: cast 'stone rain'

An illusionist can make it look as though rocks and small boulders are crashing down from the sky. Anyone in the same room who believes what is happening will come out of hiding or camouflage right away and not likely go back until they feel it is safe.

mask self

syntax: cast 'mask self'

An illusionist can use this bit of trickery to fool his opponents or anyone else who might try and get a glimpse of him. When someone looks at the illusionist who has masked himself they will not always see everything he is wearing and carrying, and may also misjudge the condition he is in. When in direct combat or grouped with the illusionist, noone would be fooled by his condition.

disappear

syntax: cast 'disappear'

An illusionist can use a disappearing act to fake his own recall. If successful he will disappear completely while staying in the same room. Combat will end because of a confused opponent, and the illusionist will be left unable to move for a short while and also remain undetectable for the duration of the spell.

serenity

syntax: cast 'serenity'

By creating a perfect illusion of a serene setting, an illusionist can stop all combat in the room as everyone stops to take in the tranquil air.

death gaze

syntax: cast 'death gaze'

Fooling their enemy into thinking they have just fell in combat could drop them to the ground in a comatose state, giving the illusionist a short chance to either get away or weave some more illusions on the unsuspecting enemy.

dragon pass

syntax: cast 'dragon pass'

Creating an illusion of a huge dragon flying straight for their enemy the illusionist often finds his victim hitting the ground hard to avoid being swallowed. This will render the opponent unable to fly until he feels the sky is safe and cause slight damage for "hitting the deck".

friendly face

syntax: cast 'friendly face'

With some clever illusions one can fool their enemy into thinking they are a friend, if successful the enemy will then follow the illusionist as a friend for a short period, unable to harm him or leave his company until he realises the truth.

mask presence

syntax: cast 'mask presence'

The masters of Illusion are so adept at trickery that they can fool an entire population into thinking they are not walking the lands at all when in fact they are out and about doing whatever their heart desires. (Illusionist would not be seen on who, but would be counted as a character in the lands)

Cool idea, but I was just wondering, it isn't to put you down. Why do people come up with class ideas all the time? I can't think of the last time one was implemented because the idea was posted here. I would just think that people would have become discouraged by now.

Want to see the last class that was implemented, with input from the playerbase?

Take a look at blademasters.

Viri implemented them, while taking into consideration a number of ideas from WC, and a couple others I can't remember at this exact point in time.

On a side (read: actually related to the thread) note, I like the idea.

Sometimes you get ideas in your head, and they won't get out until you put them down on paper.

On another note, perhaps all these ideas will be crunched into one new class? Keep 'em coming Mister E, your ideas always seem pretty well thought out, with lots of original skills/spells.

I really liked the ideas: Fools Gold, Disappear, and Dragon Pass.

The only idea I see a problem with is "Friendly Face". An illusionist with the Fear perk could use this to abuse some aggressive mobs.

They could also just take their enemy into Gear, and leave them there.

Yes they could. But they couldn't make them remove anything, or sleep, or anything else from what I gather. They just follow and cannot attack. They can also still talk and stuff I guess (or maybe not as people might abuse that). I don't see much of the difference it would make except causing people to carry around those recall potions, which they should anyways. Besides, if it lasts about as long as the necro sleep spell, it's not near enough time to get into too much trouble (unless they are very lucky and happen to catch them in Winter).

Yeah, the friendly face thing wouldn't last more than 2 ticks or so, which could be enough to get them somewhere else without really being abusable. It would also be a good way to seperate someone from their pets. Summon so and so then do that to them, all of a sudden they lose their group. I could see a necro getting screwed by that, if it landed.

If I remember correctly, Battlemage was the toned-down, altered version of Illusionists that were on FL originally (when the code was put in from AR). That being said, I don't really like the class that much. Without disclosing too much, but we have a QClass that is near enough this concept that I feel it superfluous. Nice skill/spells though man, do keep the stuff coming.

Great way to avoid the law by bringing them outside a city wall from tribunals. Sounds cool.

I propose this change, for friendly face.

Make it so that it gives you the appearance of being able to group with people on the who lists. In concert with the "mimic race" ability, you'd be able to fool people who didn't know what a badass Illithid you were, that you were in fact a friendly, happy elf. So when they come to join you to get that shiny object, you smile and nod. You smile and nod when they walk in without sanc or protections, and you blow their head off.

EDIT: "Hey! Nobody calls PieMan unkrozzomatic!"

Oh, so you think you know your Transformers, do you.....

sharpens knives

There was a bard skill like that, just dont remember what it is called. I wasnt playing when it was around.... lure... thats it, but there is an item that still grants a bonus for it.

I really like this idea.

I really like this idea.

PieMan superior, Chromatic Inferior.

I think the whole class sounds like a really groovy idea.

Definately a Qclass though (so that some sort of restriction would apply to their numbers). It would just be plain anarchy with multiple illusionists running around disguised as everyone. I think some things might be a little strong but I really like the idea a lot.
