It just popped in my head: What if we got rid of "official" alignments completely? For instance, I have an evil thief at the moment. But he's not really that "evil", per se. I mean, I'm not a mass murderer or something, even if I'm not afraid to get a little violent. Seems to me that it would only enhance roleplay-you couldn't kill someone for the sole reason that they are of the opposite alignment. Now, when I say completely I actually mean not completely, because it also seems to me it could be a bit like applying for undead, except more as a consequence thing-I.E., you kill a bunch of people, an immortal sees/hears about it, or something, and you're publicly labeled as evil. Certain classes would also be evil/good by definition. Any ideas, or comments?
Just a random thought for discussion
As Viri once said:
I need a vorpal sword --> Kill, kill, kill, kill. Ahh, shiny is mine.
Makes it a bit easy on the eq since part of the current align is that evils have a harder life but have 'cooler' eq and abilities.
Also, I don't particularly like it. Makes the RP too......wishy-washy. There is something to be said for having to choose when you roll and keep it. I don't think having people being able to choose based on their mood for the day would increase the standard of RP.

I like the idea of alignment that changes based on your actions.
Like a scale.
100 = Good
0 = Neutral
-100 = Evil
They would slowly move towards neutral with time, if you didn't kill or anything. Kill evil mobs, you slowly turn good. Kill good mobs, you slowly turn evil. I think it should be easier to turn evil than good. Also certain races, Undead/Demon, Avatar, would only be able to be 100 or -100 based on which.
But like Lay-about said, there are a lot of balance issues with it.
mudder that exact system was implemented in the old MUd that crypt ran for a little while a couple years back, and it was horrible. i.e., i had an alchemist evil, did like maybe 2 good things, and was then branded as good all the way till pinn, no matter how many evil things i did or how many good mobs i killed afterwards. it just doesnt work right. also lay-about is basically right.
Also, what about a Watcher who is hunting unnaturals, but there are no Avatars around. Kills a lich, two undead, and a demon.
Becomes good?
Neutrals shouldn't have to become crazy kill counters "1 evil, 1 good", etc.
I think Sirant said that..not viri...![]()
Played a mud like that once. Horrible.
One of the best things about evil rp is to appear nice, but either have things working for you in a way nobody realizes or just bluntly backstab them later on.

Or your neutral watcher kills one lich, and all of his eq then zaps him and the undead and demon he was going to kill, bends him over a table
Well, that's one way to put it.

You have sick taste in porn.

Since when does being evil mean you have to be a mass murderer? The thief who only thinks for himself, steals whatever he can purely for his own profit, yet doesn't like attracting attention to himself by killing... is he not evil, just because he spares their lives for a purely selfish reason? There's no compassion, no mercy, just pure, cold greed. I see that as pretty damned evil myself. Or how about the evil lawful who rarely kills because he prefers to gain power by using the system to his advantage, and since evils tend to be more likely to be outlaws, he'll be killing evils more than goods. His actions may not necessarily be entirely evil, but the motivations behind them can be. That's what I love about this system. You are what you are. Your character doesn't have to be a mass murderer, or pick and choose targets based on align to make sure his doesn't change. Your character can be the councilman who amasses power to himself, or the dark mage who just wants more and more magic power and couldn't care less about random slaughter unless it helps his cause. You are what you are, and whether you happen to kill more good mobs or evil mobs makes no difference.
Dey..as for your sig...does this imply that older women and drunk dudes are the same rank on a guy's list?
