I miss the old squire system with the Knights, i thought that was fun and really interesting to go through.
Clan Promotions
Yeah like with firtak I tried to (emphasize on tried) create an ogre kingdom clan but couldn't log enough hours to be convincing enought that I was king!
And bradah HAD to go and spoil it...
Some people sent me notes and seemed very interested indeed. Including people who had ogre chars and got the note from me and/or heard about the news from other chars. I had halfling ask if they could aid me! Dam I wish I had more time.
I'd prefer old-school. Put in an app, get in the cabal. Make it so clans are more pet-causes or blanket causes than cabals are. I could see alot more interesting rp coming from it. That and the imms would pretty much be the only ones monitoring it, though it kinda is like that right now.
The idea for clans-before-cabals came in when the mud was a lot bigger; during a time that it wouldn't be uncommon to see 60 players on during peek hours. Now, I don't think I've seen 60 players on in two years.
just a note...peek hours (peeping) are not to be confused with peak hours (most online) ![]()
In fact, they may be opposite.

I cut you so bad, you be like, "man, I wish you no cut me so bad."

boy, I wish you no cut me at all.

I blame the schools.
Squiring was the shiznit.
Having had a cabal leader in 1.0, and many cabaled characters back then as well, I quite liked that process. It was quite good back then, but I don't know if it would have worked a couple of years ago (bunch of OOC mates in a cabal, would have lead to them inducting there other mates, and others getting snuffed), or how it'd work now (Haven't played, so I don't know how the scene is currently). Helped with interaction between leaders and potentials, I found it quite enjoyable. My interviews were more like interrogations though ![]()
Back in the day... Clans were created by players. Ran by players. It was a "player cabal." Cabals and clans were completely separate.
Now, in order to get into a cabal you have to join "the clan."
So if you want to get into a Cabal (Most people do) you CANNOT join a clan.
With Sirican, after I made Elder I was trying to "Leave the clan." But I was afraid it would cause me to be kicked out of the cabal.

Agreed. I liked how personal inductions were then. They really were about showing the important people in the cabal that you were worth having as an ally. Obviously, the potential for problems existed, but... I still somewhat prefer it to the modern cabal system. Felt far more merit based, less "do these things (quests) for long enough"-based.
Not sure if we should change it back to that system, given the inherent potential for corruption, but... shrugs I still liked it more.
I do agree pali though it depends on the cabal imm because i had a savant wannabe some time back and i did rp and such, but i did a crapload of clan quests and while i was promoted within the clan didn't recieve a cabal chance till sometime later, it just depends on the imms, but I do kinda miss the olderways, sometimes.
The current clan/cabal system's main benefits:
Easier to get into a cabal for inexperienced players
Less likely for OOC player corruption to affect things
The old system's benefits:
Getting into a cabal was something that felt earned, not granted upon completing a certain number of required activities. (While I understand it doesn't work quite this way at all, it FEELS like it does.)
Players being about (cabal leaders) allowed cabal inductions without immortal interference.
As I said, the potential for corruption of the old system's huge. I just kinda liked the way they worked a little bit better.
