I think everyone is misunderstanding the reputation system. HATE does not mean that you hate them, its means that they hate you. No one is forcing anyone to hate anyone else (well except mobs).
Reputation system
This is a PK problem I think. It is similar to if you had a base race of 'elf' and wanted to play a neutral forest 'nymph'. You can't easily use qraces to get out of the confines of the baserace (I want my autofly' date=' size huge, 25 str/int dragon...but I'm stuck with my human or avian.) Reputation would work the same way; if a neutral race was wanted that would be on good relations with everyone, a very 'standard' race is the way to go. If you want the perks/stats of a certain race AND your qrace, probably will have take the flaws/stats of that race also. This includes reputation. Basically, since reputation does affect balance, it must be lumped with all the other stats that affect it, and will be difficult to change for a qrace.[/quote']
When I meant workaround, I didn't mean so much as to alter the reputation "defaults" for the base race to make them suit the restrung race.
Would this reputation system actually alter game mechanics in anyway? For example, people at "hate" with each other unable to group similar to a good trying to group with an evil and so on? Because if that was the case, what I meant was, that it would be quite tricky to try to explain in an RP sense why is hated by Duergar if your crazy obscure restring wouldn't normally be hated by Duergar. Of course, you could say that restrings must sort of match the typical base-arce archetype a lot tighter so as to fit more into the base race's reputation settings, but that would restrict things somewhat.
Again, it's not really a big problem, I am just genuinely curious as to your thoughts on how it would work on re-strings, as I personally love playing restrung races.

Yeah, one of the key points of the idea is that races with HATE levels cannot group together (like good/evil).
This DOES restrict qraces in that your cookie monster will now need to be human base instead of dwarf...but the baserace just reflects the stats, not the new 'race'. For example, you want to play a bugbear. That race could be based on dwarf/duergar/human/ogre/feral/stone. So, at this point, you just pick the best race for whatever you want for PK reasons (stats/balance), not for RP (since all of these races could have been a bugbear). That means you will have to accept the reputation system of the race you choose.
This isn't a huge problem since almost all the qraces that can be thought of can be based off a 'standard' race. This only really affects races based on elf/drow/duergar/feral/werebeast/fire/storm. The first five could easily have a human base instead, while I can't think of a lot of lost potential on qraces that are similar to storm/fire but would not share their reputation (cloud giant would have similar racial enemies as storm giant for instance).
Furthermore, exotic races would probably have a lot harder time with their reputation for their simply being exotic.
Yeah, I see.
I think it would be interesting. At the minute, I don't really see how the reputation system is used other than for a Ranger's racial hate, and even then that doesn't require a reputation system.
