I haven't actually played FL in months but I was remeniscing and I decided to drop in on the website/forums...
So i was reading these forums and I was thinking about some things (a couple of books that I read recently), And I thought to myself 'why doesn't FL have a hell like area?'
It would certainly be fun to design and could make for some interesting RP opportunities.
So here's the idea:
Entrance at the bottom end of some Deep little cave. A "gates of hell" area or whatnot. (although you would probably name it something else... Annihila, maybe). Then you could have a few progressively more difficult areas representing different 'dark' sorts of vices. And it could all culminate in a battle with the Dark Lord Miscreant (or whatever the current mythos is... like I said, its been a while).
I think it would be fun to design because of all of the firemonsters and firelakes and lava flows. And the endless river of the damned. then you can also have a little secret 'frozen' section, maybe.
Anyway, just thought I'd pop in, say hi.
Blurt out random out of the blue ideas!
Glad to see this place is still hopping and you guys are still keeping the dream alive!
Would be a cool equip area.
I kinda like it.
Winter and Dischord are both cold. You could pull a Metroid Prime and do the whole impact crater thing... like, caverns under the Forsaken Lands desert.
What happened to the Volcano area?
Heh. Hush you two. You would never know about that area if it was not for a bug anyway. Now stop it or I will remove everyone's favorite little summon toy
As to the concept, it sounds a lot like Dante's Inferno. I kind of like it, but it would have to be modified to fit into FLs world.
Interesting. Might have to post some ideas into the forum then. I could petition to build it, to be sure, but I think I'd rather throw up some ideas in its stead. I've already alot on my plate, IG and out.
Sure. It's that mad cow disease floating around. Or was that west nile? Flu season? Something. Yeah.
When I built an area for another mud, although I never got finished with it, it was based off hell. The rooms even ended up like a spiral downward that spelled out the word Hell. Of course, I didn't call the area Hell, I just wanted people to map it out and ponder how it said, "Hell" in the room structure.
I don't think the area is a bad idea at all. Even if it doesn't replace a stock area, new area's are always good in my opinion.
Well, remember what Big M. said. If we keep FL in TMS's top 10 for a month, we get three brand spanking new areas. Vote, yes?
I HOPE that they are put in as they are done!
Do you mean Hell like just some Abyssal area of evil or like...the Machiavellian nine-tiered Hell? Or HelHEIM?
Volcanos and caves would be cool, but I think it be something MEGA sweet.
Like some far off tower built by a cult of demon-worshippers thousands of years ago that have long since died off...except the tower instead of being built up towards the sky, it was built up-side-down, descending into the ground to Hell. All twisted and deformed in nature. Like M.C. Escher meets Doom or something. REALLY tough, REALLY dangerous, and with a considerable distance to cover. A total trial in and of itself to even get to Hell.
Hell itself should be on "desecrated land" or something so you're cursed as long as you're there.
Oh man, that'd be so awesome.
I think the point is, who says we don't have a hell area, but that no one can find it?
I've seen it.
I thought the Nexus was hell, and Aabahran was just due to a slight disturbance in the Nexus, and was extremely unstable and could therefore be destroyed at any time (which is basically what happened with the plane shift, although some of the gods rescued parts of Aabahran at the last second and brought it to a different plane), sending everyone straight into the Nexus. The rifts in Aabahran to the Nexus you see now and then are openings into the larger surrounding space, which leak demons and so forth into Aabahran. It's possible to go into the Nexus--some characters have done it.
But then in the revised history Virigoth did there was this multiverse, which would seem to suggest multiple surrounding spaces, not just Nexus, that kind of move around and intersect at times. And maybe the Nexus is just chaos, not hell really.
Heh. Hush you two. You would never know about that area if it was not for a bug anyway.
I found it by gating in. Thanks for the imm(s) for not slaying me after I dragged few nice items out from there. phew
I think there should be some sort of list where is listed areas that are available for public, and areas that are not - yet exist. To make it even less propably for some lucky bastard gating in and doing something unproper.
I for long time kept gaining (summon) one sack from a location that wasn't part of the game. Until I was told not to. (Thanks Raargant for not taking the content as well
) [Edit] I also didn't know it wasn't part of the game, until I was told not to get that item.
reminds me of a character that kept gating to an IMM room. i waited, wizi'd, until she came. needless to say, she was surprised when she found her arms had been ripped off and her corpse eaten. muwhahahahahaha. you may -think- you get away with cheating, but eventually you will get caught. IMMs are shady. heh.
good rule of thumb: if it's too good to be true, it probably is. alert the staff, and save yourself.
Ah, yeah when I was building for another mud I actually had an area based off Dante's Inferno, (very well worth the read btw) it was quite the mission, actually took me about a month (which is a long time, i build really quickly eh grannyman?
) but the idea was awesome. by far one of the best things ive done and I reckon something like that is just what FL needs. we got ice, wood, desert, water, barren rock, even clouds for gods sake, why not a little fire to the mix?
Done and stilllll waiting.
