At least, that is my thought of what it could be. Its nothing special just yet, I sorta threw that together in a pinch. I think it shows a rather obvious difference in mentality and style for the type of thief. Each thief gets a limited choice of trap styles they can use, the more fight oriented thief gets stronger, more potent ones (lethal traps)

Here are the "Helps" for each skill not already made.

Conceal

Syntax: Automatic

A well-trained thief knows when others of his guild are lurking nearby. Nothing is more bothersome than an enemy who knows you tricks and has a few of their own. As a simple measure to keep your items a secret, thieves have learned to conceal their inventory about them, in essense keeping other thieves from seeing what they have.

Swindle

Syntax: Automatic

Through smooth-talking and charisma, a skilled pick-pocket can easily cheat his way into lowering a price by at least half if not more. Nothing in Aabrahan is too costly for a thief who can swindle just right.

Drag

Syntax: Drag

Though often not very easy, over time, a thief can learn to drag a blackjacked foe wherever he pleases to further confound them and make their escape not always possible should they require a bit of a beating to persuade them further, that is, if they have a wares left to defend themselves with.

Chicanery

Each Pick-pocket gains a slight boost in thier abilities by learning the fundamentals of their guild, in doing so, their steal skill may exceed common mastery and their hiding skills as well. Also, they may learn a few special tricks to further their means.

Whisper

Mind Games

Blend

Nightvision

Coat Blade

Leap

Whisper

Syntax: whisper

With a victim rendered unconscious, a thief can whisper ideas into their subconscious. In doing so, there is a slim possibility to prolong the sleep time of a victim or if such fails, however, they will wake up immediately.

Mind Games

Syntax: mind games

In doing this, a character might become scared or worried that the thief is lurking. In their fear, it makes them more succeptable to being blackjacked as they are too focused on their purse to realize you are sneaking up behind them.

Blend

Syntax: Automatc

A rather difficult ability to master, though exceedingly useful for all thieves who choose to learn it. This allows them to remain in the shadows when they steal from a passerby.

Nightvision

Syntax: automatic

A rather easy skill to learn, but this allows a thief to see at night without aid of a lantern or lamp. Though limited in use, it is helpful for a thief who wishes to maintain stealth at all times.

Coat Blade

Syntax: Coat

Though a more sinister tactic for a pick-pocket, they often find themselves in a rather violent world and despite their preference for stealing, they too get into a skirmish or three. So in doing this, they might place a lethal coat of poison on their edged weapons (Dagger, Spear, Sword) and in doing so, an enemy is infected with the said poison and will often flee should it spread quickly enough.

Leap

Syntax: Automatic

A skilled acrobat and master of their body, a skilled pick-pocket can learn to evade attempts to trip them by leaping over the attackers leg or striking weapon. This requires quite the focus mentally and many leaps may just drain the thief, but more often than not, it is a life-saver.

Bind

Syntax: Bind

With a swift tie and a few knots, a smart thief can bind his opponents feet and keep them from chasing should something go awry. Though they must be asleep to do, this often saves a pick-pocket should they fail to slay their intended target and need to make haste away from the scene.

Acrobatics

Syntax: Automatic

Knowing the aspects of jumping and leaping moreso than other classes, the pick-pocket can easily jump and dodge attacks they anticipate, this often aids a thief greatly, but it is not always easy to guess what an opponent may do, thus it is not always successful.

(When a skill is repeated, they have a higher, though low, chance to evade it since, in essence, they learn the chars traits and how they attack. So, if a warrior bashes once, it hits as normal. Then goes for a second bash, it has a 5% higher chance to miss, a third, 10%, and finally, a fourth, a 15%, but nothing higher)

Glance

Syntax: Automatic

Though often thieves examine their foes, the great challenge is to conceal this and keep them from even knowing you seek to strip them clean. Using swift and concealed glances, you are able to look at them without them even knowing.

Escape Artist

Syntax: Automatic

Many call this the savior of the clumsy thief. Should a thief fail an attempt to knock an opponenst out, there is a chance they can simply fade back into the shadows or make a quick dash into a crowd nearby. In doing so, they hide directly after failing, preventing an enemy from spotting them and taking action.

Lash

Syntax: Lash

Using long, projecting weapons (Spears, Swords, Axes, and Whips) a skilled bandit can lash hard against an enemies legs and cause extreme pain and render his opponent weak and unable to run for a short time. This is often used to catch an enemy off-guard and keep them from darting off before they can be finished.

Cheap Shot

Syntax: Automatic

When a bandit closes in with his close-range weapons (Daggers, Swords, and Axes). In getting so close, they are often in the thick of it so much, they can manage a swift, powerful blow to an enemies stomach, face, or kidneys depending on their weapon and/or location.

(Daggers - Face Common, Swords - Kidneys Common, Axe - Stomach Common. All are random, but the percentages with these weapons are higher in the labeled category. A shot to the face renders them silenced for 0/1 tick and blind for the same. Nothing too strong. Stomach makes them vomit and unable to flee immediately or from wimpy. And kidneys does raw damage.)

Stalk

Syntax: Stalk

Being a well-known bandit can be profitable and the ability to stalk is a direct relation with your reputation. The higher the rank, the better off you are, since you may stalk an enemy and in their panic, they might begin to twist and turn in directions they had not intended or fumble with doors and find themselves cornered.

Lethal Traps

Though booby traps and simplistic traps are good for stunning a foe or giving them a scratch or two, Lethal Traps are just as the name says -- Made to kill. Be them a deadfall that triggers a stone that rolls over an enemies bones or a scythe that lops off their head, these traps are the most sadistic and sinister in any arsenal anywhere.

Just some ideas I figured I would toss up here.

You've got a lot of really good ideas here, though some of them could be a tad overpowered. All in all, I like it a lot.

Heh, some of them are already implemented without the use of a skill.

Wait...no...It's not...

No...

BLEND...

It's already a skill.

---You can steal without coming out of the shadows.

Hey, let's give them sanc, fly and hellstream too

I..remember...you...NO!!!

I think people are getting the same misconceptions of this post as they got when I made my many posts about thieves. I don't think these ideas are aimed at making thieves more powerful, or giving them better powers. I think certain people like CruelEdict and myself think that the class could be made a bit more interesting by changing the very standard ways in which they fight a little bit.

One skill I always thought either theives or syndie's should get is like a forgery skill. Like the ability to forge in game notes to other players. Think it would b kind of cool.

those skills smack of CF and Avendar

Ha! Plagarism for the win!

I mean dont get me wrong these are great ideas, they were probably even better however when the staff of CF implemented them the first time, for both classes youre posting "your" ideas for

I really hope that's NOT what's happening here.

I'm sure Valq will not appreciate it.

Good thing I'm not using them.

Funny, I had these ideas about 2+ years ago, before I even knew what CF was. The suggestion is not about making them powerful, but changing them so they are not so linear. It adds dimension to classes that can also aid in reflecting on a character.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what CF is?

I don't either, but I wait for someone else to ask.

Carrion Fields. In a lose and totally ignortant sort of description: CF brought about AR (Abandoned Realms) brought about FL.

Personally I love thieves, and I would like to see some sort of choice of path. However, some of those need to be re-done. Steel, blackjack, pry, gag for any thief; As those are the essence of a thief. Different thief weapons? No I think they should stay the same. Also, more defences and making blackjack not initiate combat would give them a huge edge especially over monks who can only mantis one attack. Some things like that.

I remember being told that before.

I like thieves, too, but that's the reason I dont really play them - no paths
