Drunk Monk

"You stagger into your opponent like a blind drunk!"

I've always been curious why a message like this results in a trip against your opponent, rather than a bash. It can't be a matter of balance due to monkular advantage over protective shield classes, because monks can't take the shield down under defensive empowerment. I think a bash would be more in line with what's "happening" in the fight, as well as give monks a bit of a boost against melees. Monks might end up a little worse off against non-flying giants than they are now that it trips, but I think overall it'd be a good change.

Discuss.

Well I think it might be 'overpowered' because I believe kick is one round lag?? and if it is just think of a bash type attack in defensive monk with one round lag. And also if it is two rounds think of it as still a little overpowered because against like those of rouges and some others could keep them in battle alot longer than before.

Kick happens to be a two round lag.

It's two rounds of lag, and as far as rogues go, this thing hits much less often than bash/bodyslam/trip. First, kick has to work, then double kick, then drunken. Three skills rather'n one. In addition, only normal-sized races can be monks, so it's not like you'll have doubly-enlarged-giant-sized lag, only run-of-the-mill.

well bash like attack is is better than a trip, I have tripped people and bashed them and found that bash is better (trip is better for gaint sized creatures). Also a monk that has not master kick and double kick is hampered in the attack department. Plus there are ways to enlarge yourself.

Trip is useless against anything that got dex least 20. With my experience, it lags the tripper more than the tripped.

Don't knock the monk drunken trip.

This ability grants something that is very special: The ability of an unlaggable class to inflict lag.

There are numerous classes that have that ability. Evil clerics, blademasters, battlemages.

Actually, with the right weaponry, theoretically any class has that ability.

Battlemages and Evil Clerics are not naturally unlaggable. A monk in defensive does not have to have fly potions, and his lag defense can not be dispelled. That's why a defensive monk is unlaggable. Other classes are not unlaggable as monks are.

He does however have to empower defensive. And a battlemage with mana lock does not have a dispellable lag protection.

But he also does not have natural flight. Which means he's trip lagged.

What I am saying is with only natural class abilities, what Behren's said is true. Monks are the only (maybe blm, don't know anything about them) class that is unlaggable that can lag.

blademasters are very similarly not laggable with the right stance/ weapon choice. Well except for minister at any rate.

But their unlaggableness can be dispelled. Admittedly, few people can do that and then lag, but...I think a zerker could. And that's all I need.

True, but BMs can't lag in that stance. (I'll check if they can trip, not sure on that one)

Only if they eat the blue mushroom in Emerald.

BLMs can trip in any stance. They can also critical strike.

Lagging Crits do not lag in that stance. I'm 100% sure of this one.

I wouldn't bet on that. I am almost positive that I have been lagged by the certain crit that you need anatomy mastery to get, by a blm in that stance.

Edit: Granted, should I really be arguing with the coder on the intricacies of the code? :-P

I would bet on that. I was in that code just the other day. However, I will run a couple tests to insure that is still the case. If they lag, that is absolutely a bug.

I can do you one better.

And is that some sort of innuendo? You need a girl, mate.
