The idea is half-baked admittedly and it's wholly dependent on how often IMMs snoop in to see interactions between players.
There are two primary ways to react to an RP interaction/conversation; you can verbally respond (tells/says) or physically respond (emote). However, I feel we're missing a way to react mentally that gets conveyed out to IMMs. This thought channel would only broadcast for the room and only IMMs (and hell maybe even psions since they're weirdo brainmages) can see it. A couple of situations where this can be used would be as follows:
A powerhungry lower ranked cabal member playing good soldier in both words and actions, but grumbling internally about having to kiss ass to his higher ranked cabal member.
A stoic Trib who is at odds with putting someone to death.
This would be similar to journals but a bit more spontaneous. Also feels less forced than sounding like a crazy person using 'say' in empty rooms.
Would you really have the time to write a journal entry while interacting with someone? I'm saying as the events unfold your character can internally react to it in 'real' time.
Why not just give the IMMs an option to only see thoghts locally (in room) or to be able to open it worldwide and listen to all thoughts? If I were an IMM I'd love to have it worldwide because it gives me an idea on who's doing something interesting if I'm looking around for something good to snoop in on. You can always do a journal afterwards but I like the real time aspect. Players who prefer journal get to keep it, no one looses anything and everyone gains something. Just up to the IMMs if they want to hear the sick thoughts that come out of some of our heads.
If I'm going to grumble, I'll do it out loud be it in an empty room or not. If it's a quick and involved conversation, I may not have time to type out both internal and external monologue during my interactions. In this instance, I'll take the actions and thoughts to the journals and record it there. Sure, it won't be real time, but it would still further flesh out the session.
Now, I'm not saying that this is a bad suggestion, just one that I believe has limited use in how I currently RP.
I use group chat for internals. I think the imms saw that a few times on my human necro back in the day when I had my zombies restrung into mechanical constructs
how about a command that logs the immediate room history.
There once was a bug command that worked similarly, what if our most awesome coders did some of that amazing stuff and gave us an RPLog command.
Storing the history back a bit for Immortal scrutiny. If the RP is held worthy, perfect. If people abuse the command, slay them with extreme prejudice.
I like the idea of having some type of command for inner thoughts that can only be seen by the player and immortals. Sometimes you're stuck with roleplaying with yourself and it would add an extra element.
It isn't like you have to use it but would be nice to be there just in case.
90% of the time when RP happens, there wont be an IMM watching you anyway. If you want the IMMs to know your thoughts, then write a journal about the experience, or even better, submit the RP log with comments which are your thoughts. I've done this quite often myself.
If your character has a good history, personality and goals described, then the IMM watching will most likely know how you feel and think anyway. That's the whole idea about your character's history, to make yourself know to the Gods.
