I would like to have merchants be able to sell a service where they help others level. Obviously they can outfit them, but I think being able to group, or maybe sell them exclusive leveling pets would be awesome.
The way I envision it functioning is similar to diplomacy, where their PK flag changes and they are able to group with any level and assist them in leveling. With the low numbers during certain times, I think this would greatly help people level up characters and give business to merchants.
Alternatively to the Merchant being able to directly group, maybe the Professional Soldier can group with them and help in combat/count for XP distribution bonuses.
Additionally maybe they can also sell XP bonuses for leveling. Basically a spell that gives them a boost.
I don't think this is a good option. Nobody should get easy leveling at low levels just because a 50 gets bored. The game isn't designed to allow that for good reason. The level range is already 10 levels, that's good enough.
Also, you'd get evils helping goods, and that would be illegal and really force us to try and have oversight over every time a merchant is logged in to make sure rules are being followed.
Merchant's already have the ability to help people level with the equipment sets. Combine that with the potential 20 level span in group levels, and it's really not a change I would think is ever needed or worth the drawbacks.
You raise very valid points and I concur. I suppose it was a idea that came to me and I did not fully think about the consequences before posting (nor did I until I read your post).
Leveling in itself should be a task, not one that is unduly burdensome, but one that does take effort. I tend to play during hours when I only see one or two individuals on, usually attempting to solo level. I think about rolling a character to help them, but I hate the idea of just creating a character for that purpose, then throwing them away. Hence the reason for my post.
Just FYI:
For the last 4 or so years, the "normal" exp bonus has been 200%, that means double of what the exp you used to get.
For our double exp weeks, the exp bonus is set at 400.
Atm, the bonus is set at 300, to encourage all the new characters floating around lately.
We will most likely do a double exp, double learning event again this Easter.
Questing from your guild has been a fast and viable way to Pinn alone for quite some time.
