druid change

Well, after a long 7 year hiatus, I have pinned my first 50 in years and decided to go druid again.  I have no complaints thus far, except one thing.

Seems to me that druids are pigeonholed into a very 1 dimensional style of play/rp. They basically are confined to one cabal, which makes play style very lacking... other than the standard tree hugging hippy RP.

My biggest complaint however, is that exploration for them is very difficult.  There are quite a few areas of the game that are more or less completely off-limits to them due to yearning.

My suggestion would be this.  (Gaunticles actually came up with the idea.)

Give druids a spell similar to blanket of darkness, which allows them to temporarily transform a room type to forest.  Allowing them to create a safe point from which they can progress through places like Gear, Winter, etc...  Doesn't seem to me like that would create too many balance issues, little to no combat advantages gained.  But will make exploration and play at least a bit easier, esspecially for new players... or old players like me who haven't explored much of the realm yet and don't know if forested rooms exist in some of the places I'd like to explore.  Dangerous to wander too far in search of a forest in some of the high level areas.

Honestly, druids are master's over nature, it doesn't seem too out of place that using magic they could coax any plants in the area to grow at an accelerated place, making the room an acceptable place for the druid to rest and renew it's spells.

Meh... just an idea.

I like this idea. Something like treeform the place for a duration of a couple of days, with a long delay timer.

not sure if this is easily doable via code though

I like this.. a lot.

It is possible that treeform could be modified to suit this purpose too.  Rather than changing the room type, the druid 'becomes' the forest temporarily.  Allowing yearning to be satisfied, and also allowing him to renew important buffs.  Set it up so that with the right circle cast, and treeform cooldown timer.... he would be able to progress through areas without forests without being killed by yearning.

I don't think an overly long delay timer is honestly needed either.  Perhaps a reasonably high mana cost.  if you put a 24 hour timer on the spell, and then the druid can only cast his spells, which last 8 hours, move through an area, and have to return all the way back to the room he created 14 hours ago, only to have the mobs in the new section he has cleared respawn... seems like there isn't much advantage too it then.

Also, not to sidetrack my own thread... but it seems to me opening up some new cabal options to druids is about in order as well.

Not as if there are a TON of people playing druids.....ever.  The one dimensional RP offered by a glaring lack of cabal choices seems to make for a pretty cookie cutter druid build/play style.

Except for certain sectors.  Like lava.  Or out in the middle of the ocean.  But yes, an interesting idea.

Seaweed grows in the ocean

I reject your reality and replace it with my own.

I've seen Tribunal and Syndicate Druids iirc. Maybe even a Savant one?

I think it's great idea haha.

skill added.

wow... quickest response ever!  sweet.  this makes druids at least 100 percent more playable.  Also... foliage is misspelled, 'foilage'  which... is pretty funny too

Eh.

I'm human.

I'll fix it later.

Yes! Thank you.

On another note is there any reason Druids can't be Syndicate?

There's been a very notorious syndi druid before (someone everybody logged off from, but I am really bad with remembering names).

It is just a lot harder to pull off a combi of druid and syndi rp than druid and watcher rp.

Aurehlian? Something similar...but that was a long, long time ago..like about when people figured out that you could poison to stop blackjack. Gomanhor? was the player--character of the same name was an ogre berserker. Player became a (corrupt) imm for awhile and left. Friends with...the undead warrior guy that also became an imm. Luorath or something. Back when hero level was introduced. I dueled him for the warrior hero spot with Charim. I won it, so I got the hero spot...he got immed instead. Both Luorath and Gomanhor were fired for cheating.

After literally 6 years of struggling with gatestones, druids, yearning and gating (not to mention learning every area from where all of the above can be used...) I offer this:
