It's not max 350; it's worse. It puts you to 50% health. For a 1000 hp necro, that's up to about 500 health.
It's not without drawbacks, though. They're drained for a time. For an illithid, that means no shock until it's gone.
Zerg went into shock, then absorbed the golem. Golem restore also gives him mana back after the shock takes it all
