A new concept for an ancient problem

Many players through the course of their play time here in Aabahran eventually decide to create a character of a non-standard race. You guessed it, this is about restring applications.

I believe this path to heroism will eventually appeal to all players as they seek something NEW to try in our world. The only trouble is that we must choose a standard race, which is similar to that which we intend to prove we are.

This creates confusion among the characters within our world as we see the character as the base class they have chosen up until the restring application has been approved. As a solution, what if we added option 20 to the standard races, OTHER.

When a player chooses option 20 (other), the code could then direct the player into a detailed creation process that asks several questions to classify the character, add certain benefeits/vulnerabilities, and determine racial exp cost accordingly.

Such as;

How large are your people?

  1. Tiny 2) Small 3) Medium 4) Large

What attribute are your people best known for?

  1. Strength 2) Agility 3) Intelligence 4) Wisdom 5) Health

What would be your peoples second best known attribute?

similar list - choice number one

Do your people have the power to fly?

  1. Yes 2) No

Do your People have tails?

  1. Yes 2) No

Do your people have Horns?

  1. Yes 2) No

Are your people known for being extremely proficient with any weapon?

  1. Yes 2) No

If Yes ^ Which Weapon do your people prefer?

List weapons here.

Are your people known for their?

  1. Combat Skills 2) Magical Abilities 3)Piousness 4) Stealth 5) None

^ Choice alters class options and adds random automastery to a skill/spell.

I know the concept needs a lot of tweeking but I believe it would enhance the character interactions with would be restring characters. Please by all means tear this Idea apart, but lets not leave the pieces on the ground. Help me rebuild it into something even better.

I want a horned, tailed, ogre regenerating flying monster that auto trips, auto gores and flies. For sure.

That said - imms have the ability to apply weaknesses and resistances. I've given a frost giant restring a resist to cold and vuln to fire (restring from stone giant), and have given other vulns or resists to other quest races.

It does indeed help when you list what resists and vulns your race may have in your application so imms can gauge how balance may affect you.

An ancient problem? I don't think that's a problem at all.

@morlach I did say Random Automastery what are the chances you get autotrip, um 0% if I coded it (mastery of trip and auto trip are not the same thing). The tail is merely an extra attack. The Horns only would allow you to charge regardless of weapon choice. And ALL experienced players have access to flight anyway.

But you make a valid point.

Do your people have any known vulnerabilities? <negative exp cost. I forgot that one.

@foxx I do not think its a problem that Bards steal so.... We just never agree, and that's fine by me.

Great feedback however, even Foxx's acknowledgment that its not an issue for him.

Great.  Now I've got a bunch of restring ideas I want do do.

Seriously don't have enough time for them all.

Why not have it a detailed character creation the option for a Restring (after you chosen the race). And perhaps allow the input of the race name.

Then at description check you get that sorted out by the imms.

Edited

I'd rather not have any robocops, marsians and angels running around till we manage to catch em.

Thus the application process.

Martians?

Yes Dale.  Them too.
