Kotrag Vs Suldaim

I'm in the camp that would suggest, based on your approach, that you not stay in combat so long.

Temporal storm hits automatically, drop an age then flee.  He's losing mana and hp every tic, you are not.

Battlemages get parry right? That would be hindered by low dex if I'm not mistaken.

Yes, but this is one out of 4 defenses (blades, blur and terrashield being the others, with blades being less reliable than the others).  It being hindered a bit doesn't explain the loss well, I think - as Ulms said, him focusing on mals but not using attrition tactics, as well as sticking around too long?  That does explain it pretty well.

Awesome advice guys.  Thanks.  I got my butt whipped.  I am learning everyday.  I am trying hard and hope I am getting better.  This death is just a reminder that I cant stay in combat vs Ferals.  Just get outdamaged.  I need to put this into practice though I know from a previous battle with Kotrag that when I tried that approach he was just on me.  Which makes this tactic difficult then I get attacked trying to catch a tick and I got flee and get nailed with a throw.

I too found ferals to be incredibly tough for a bmg, given their enhanced melee defenses combined with fury.  Only way I did anything close to well is by fighting them outside around noon and going for sear blinds very early in the fight.

For sure they seem to be my bane.  Every feral I have ever fought with skill has owned. me.

Soooo...having played five cabal'd BMG's (though admittedly nothing since Proceon which was 3-4 years ago).  Your playstyle vs melees is basically to use your little mals until you think you have an upper hand.  Outside of a lucky dispel magic + sear/flashfire, 3 x Rust should be your opener.  I believe it lasts 9 hours, which your cabal skill will cut down but you can stack it every tick.  This gives you more attrition capability.  Age is random and i'd only use it for the -saves...i.e. just once.

The rest depends on the situation:  Try to blind, disarm...blind, thunderclap...shrink/slow...whatever you think you need.  Finally THEN you start with the afflictives.  You've probably figured this out already but you can also boost your reflective shield.  Pump it up max before a fight.

iku is dex -1 but it stacks to a max of 6. Don't let them hit you 6 times.

Shouldn't there be a save vs mal for the -Dex?  It's easier for a ninja to mal their opponent than an actual mage.

Max of 6?  The spirits seem to ignore my targets after the 3rd application.

I would also point out that you have one of, if not the MOST damaging fire spell in the game... Fight him on your terms. Which happen to be around noon.

If its not meeting these expectations. Run away. You only have to fight when you want to fight - don't force the issue.

It doesn't matter if you loose to Kortag 100x if you learn from it. I think you're learning from this fight so you're winning in the end.

EDIT: Just read pali's post. What he said. :P

EDIT2: Also.. You thought about using a dancing fire weapon?

Pyre lance is non-rare (backpackable) and has a socket. its 19 in weight but a heavy socket can add to that. You can also enchant it with scrolls/invoker and get a pretty decent weapon out of it. Worth a try? Why the hell not - you're loosing anyway :P

It might also help with certain other ferals. Especially those with fire shields if you get my drift.

EDIT: Otherwise the blazing baridache but I don't know if you can dance that as its berserker only?

Last I checked, sear is light based, not fire.

From my understanding, the bardiche was made zerk only specifically to prevent BMG's from dancing it.  At least that's what I got from the 2012 changes.  Regardless of the reason, it can't be danced.

Inferno is heavier, but unlike the pyre lance, can't be socketed.  Choose wisely.

Its also very very hard to get a hold of.

Yes it is.  It's almost like there's an entire race that tries to horde every fire weapon in the lands.  Strange that.  :D

So the question is, would a 19 pound base weight vuln weapon hit harder than a better dancer, though it's a non-vuln weapon?  If it does, bonus.  The fact that it's common would make it diabetic.  Sounds like something fun to test.

they changed a lot of fire damage weapons to be made of fire so ferals cannot hoard them, iirc.

He could actually be talking about fire giants Manual :P

Specifically fire giants and anyone that repeatedly fights them, yes.  Deny your opponent an advantage.

No one ever uses the Inferno axes, but they never seem to be in.

So I have tested dancing a Fire Lance which is nearly as heavy as the Pyre Lance.  Trying to find something in the socket that is not rare is difficult.  I wouldn't be able to put a razor crystal in as it would be too rare.  Problem is my dancer never hits them.  If you look at the logs, Always parried and dodging.  I have a plan though.  Might be difficult  to pull off.
