Locate Object Enhancement

Yes there is a level check, lowbies will only see common equipment unless for some reasomn the rare is of low level.

UC

I didn't read many of the posts, but it's obviously targeted for newbies. If they know it exists, they can ask someone to show them where it is - if that someone notices it wouldn't be ideal for them, they'll probably say it. Thus a question they didn't even ask is answered, giving more wisdom to the newbie.

Perhaps also giving the level of the item would also be an additional help.

® L30 A double plated helm is carried by Kesrick, in the Dragon road.  (Journeyman)

Personally I would like a modifier something

c 'locate object' helm rare - Would show all rare helms

c 'locate object' helm environment - Would show all the helms that are not on PC's (May not sound like a big deal but try locating "herb" when Haakon is on. Makes finding new herbs a pain in the butt)

c 'locate object' helm PC - Only shows helms that PC's have

c 'locate object' 'head slot' rare - Would show all rare items in the head slot

Make an area flag for unused areas so that objects in them cannot be located

I think it would be helpful for newbies. I'll toss out a quick scenario.

Look Badass DK who is going to whoop you worse than your granny did when you stole the last cookie (We're gonna shorten that to Badass DK)

Badass DK is using

Sweet Hat of Stylin'

You have died!

10 minutes later...hmm that DK was wearing a sweet hat. What was it called again? Idk...

Co 'locate object hat'

insert like 15 silly hats here and one pair of shoes that somehow has hat in it's title

a Sweet Hat of Stylin' {rare marker} is carried by Rhymin O'hooligan

more dumb hats and one thing you think is a consumable...who eats hats?

Hmmm, it must have been that sweet hat. I have no idea where this rhymer is...

Who

[Human] [Homie] Buddy McGonnahelpyououtson the total Bro

[Avian] [bully] Badass DK the, well, Badass DK

[Gnome] [Witty Fake Cabal] Smacktalker the Inherently Annoying

[50 Human Cle] [Homie M] Newbie the still growing and learning

Tell Buddy "yo homie, know where Rhymin O'hooligan is"

Buddy tells you "yeah dude, you want his sweet hat?"

Tell Buddy "That would be great, wanna help a brother out?"

Buddy Tells you "Sure man, meet me at the entrance to The Club"

And now I've either proven how this would totally benefit newbies, or everyone thinks I'm crazy.

Edited

Tell badass dk 'yo homo where'd ye get that sweet hat from?'

Badass dk tells you 'from rhymin o'hooligan.'

Tell badass dk 'where can I find him and woop his ass?'

Badass dk tells you 'at the club. Bring a friend though, he likes it gang bang style.'

If you have some social skills you can even get a relative id out.

The end result? Mop learns how to utilize his locate object spell and f0xx learns that he can learn anything by the simple act of asking.

f0xx's example is great and could go a bunch of ways too!

Badass DK tells you "eff off, I ain't tellin' you NARC"

Then you ask buddy...and probably tell Buddy that Badass DK is a snitch and needs to get jumped.

Or

Badass DK tells you "I could use a homeboy, lemme show you through the hood"

All of these are awesome learning points for anyone new.

My point is, there will always be someone more knowledgable than you, and  you will not always have a hard coded skill to circumnavigate it. The sooner you learn to ask the right questions to the right people and use the correct approach, the better.

The way I see, the idea behind locate object is to simply show you if an item is in the lands. Not to tell you any properties of the item or where to get it from.

That's they way you see it foxx. And that was the original intent of the spell. To see what, and\or how many of an item is where. They are purpose g a change to that original intent that would do nothing but benefit new and some of us older players when trying to find a specific or just a rare upgrade to an item. Not everyone is going to ask the guy who just murdered them where they got that sword or helmet. And even doing so could be a breach of RP. Total immersion, you aren't going to be friendly to the guy who just dominated you unless your toons RP is a submissive one, which we RARELY have due to our own egos.

instead of trying to make a hardcoded skill/spell in the game that discerns the difference between rare or not... or even combining the lore skill with the locate/identify spells... why not continue to promote the eq lists that give detailed information about the item and where it can be found? that's part of the appeal of joining our community, to take a peek behind the 'curtain' and see what's really going on... while being able to talk shop about something you have in common with fellow players. we should promote the forums to newer and returning players. [from essays concerning rp, pk, descriptions, applications AND eq/consumable lists... even lower end cabal skills and non class-specific skills are being discussed (all things that help curb the learning curve)]

we've got quite a few items added already, but nothing of any great merit. maybe, just maybe, keeping the items dealing with quests (and certainly cabal eq) should remain hidden unless you find out ingame... but everything else should be cataloged and presented to newer players (and veterans alike). they'll still have to journey to the item and retrieve it; they'll still need help obtaining some of the better items... at least they'll really know what they're looking for and where they should be headed for it... which would make asking the right questions ingame all the easier.

Im happy to send my EQ list to anyone who wants it.

Im not going to lie though, I got lazy. Hasnt been updated in a while. Dont look a girt horse in the mouth.

Ok So apparently everyone wants a copy. Am I able to send files via PM? Does anyone know?

Secondly, I would of put all of this information on the WIKI but I just don't have the time to manually put each item into it. So I don't mind sharing it.

Alternatively you might all have to send me email accounts so I can pass it on to you.

Put it here.

Every time I've tried to add/change items on the wiki, saving has failed.  Or at least it has recently.

Put it here.

Its like 500+ items long? I don't think thats realistic...

You can attach files in the advanced reply options, up to 500kb.

Sweet, I'll see what I can do tonight.

I can only find the older one which I sent to Magik - I should have a word with quite a few more items on it including all the herbs effects and durations (And all the druid potions but I'll clear that out) if I can find the doc.

Older one.  HA!  Thing still had the golden mask on it!

I was planning on combining his and mine so when that's done, I'll post that, too.  Though much of it, after he finds his new sheet, might be redundant.

Either case, let's throw those into a new thread.

If those ids are like the one of the voulge you showed me, then my most sincere prayers are with our newbies
