Out of Game Note Writing

I was thinking it would be nice to be able to log into a character, not go actually into the game, but still be able to write notes, description, journal entries, applications, etc. There are times when I only want to just write some notes and then I have to find a nice out of the way place to be left alone, unless there is an opposing cabal member, then I am forced to defend my altar, etc. and it can be quite an annoyance, especially if I am pressed for time. RP should not be sacrificed at the expense of PK, and I think many would find this useful.

The same can be said about training:

"Sometimes I just want to be left alone and train".

Or about getting wares:

Or about a dozen other things.

FL is a dangerous place. Noone is safe. No matter what you want.

That sounds like a word document or txt file to me.

I understand what you're getting at, but I don't think there needs to be an in game feature for one you already have on your computer.  If you're looking to catchup on the newest notes and updates, you can always log in for five minutes, reading all your notes and logging off when you're able to, then responding as your leisure after writing it all out in your document.

Copy, paste, format, post.

How I envision it is that you log onto your character as normal, however instead of entering the world, you would be given a prompt to be able to edit your history, etc. and then with a command, you can enter the world. This would allow a player to focus on copy and pasting or writing a note, history, etc. and then be able to enter the world with their character. The alternatives (assuming you are not in a cabal with opposing cabal members logged in) is to go to the Arena or Astral Conclave and sit in there and write your notes, history, etc.

I feel this would give the ability for players to enhance their RP and flesh out their character without being bogged down with paranoia, or having to sit in an area that is designated as no PK for reasons outside of enhancing RP. However, if I am incorrect, and the staff has no issue with characters sitting in these zones while they work on writing their notes, history, then that is what I will do in the future.

If we catch anyone abusing the conclave or arena as a no-pk haven, expect to get smacked hard.

You're asking for a vote-like catch before you actually enter the world to write notes and stuff.  How is this not like writing it out in a document and copy/pasting?  For those of us who don't have clients that can handle multi-line prompts like your vanilla telnet, I can see your point and for them, I will agree with you.  It would be handy.  For everyone else I still believe that it's not needed.  Ultimately, I think that the need isn't that great to facilitate this addition.

If you're really, really wanting to write notes while logged:

If you're uncaballed and want to write out notes/applications in (relative) safety, there are a number of hidey-holes in the lands, both no scan/where rooms and area's so far off the beaten track you should be fine for hours on end to do what you need to.

If you're caballed, you'll still have down time, even while fighting.  Ran away and hid while healing up?  Drop another line of your note in.  Killed your opponent?  Drop another line in.  Got killed?  Drop a line or three in while you're a ghost.  Plus, not all your enemies are logged in all the time.  You joined a cabal knowing full well what it would entail, you find (or make) some downtime and capitalize on it.  Nobody said you had to write the full note all at once either.  The only thing that will throw you writing a bit at a time is a shift.  Plus, you still have the same options as those who have no cabal.  Plenty of hidey-holes.

Just my 2¢.

Word pad is your friend. Write notes, copypasta, and hide.

Tada!

I'll take the copy paste method if you fix the bug that causes the disconnect from entering too much at one time.

The Conclave is No PK? I usually avoid that place like the plague because I dont want to get trapped up there with someone.

I understand that many may not feel there is a need for this, and I am not certain how difficult (or not) it would be to implement. However, I still believe that if it were implemented, many people would take advantage of it.

Of course people would abuse it. That's a given.

How could you possibly abuse it?

Heralds, those ovepowered war mongering jerks would just log in to post their notes and act as a shadow cabal to endlessly taunt everyone with their petty and hurtful words.

Nexus might actually cry.

Seriously, why are cabals give the chance to "vote" free of PK while people cannot read notes or write notes with the same fairness?  What's the difference between a cabal application for cabal entrance and a worthwhile piece of writing that can contribute to ongoing RP?  Let's face it, most cabal applications are a rehash of character history or an explication on strength or some other virtue.

If FL is sooooo dangerous, let us stop pretending why cabal votes get the exception to the rule and get right into it:  It's a left over mechanic from a time when PK took the front seat.  Either drag the vote out or let people read/write their notes with the same equity.
