Incognito, hiding your class and god.

What if there was a command that allowed you to go incognito.

This would allow your character to hide his:

Guild from the Group command.

Elzorath's group:

[50 War] Zuranok 89% hp 82% mana 99% mv 549026 xp

[50 Bmg] Elzorath 99% hp 68% mana 99% mv 627443 xp

to:

Elzorath's group:

**[50 Inc] **Zuranok 89% hp 82% mana 99% mv 549026 xp

[50 Bmg] Elzorath 99% hp 68% mana 99% mv 627443 xp

The god you worship.

You receive 27 experience points.

A swirling dervish hits the ground ... DEAD.

Elzorath sacrifices the corpse of a swirling dervish in the name of Knowledge.

We could also hide the character title with something unflattery like:

[ Elf ] [KNIGHT] (Hope [V]) Elzorath Illumirin the Scourge of the Battlefield

[ Minot ] Zuranok Zarr the Master of War

To:

[ Elf ] [KNIGHT] (Hope [V]) Elzorath Illumirin the Scourge of the Battlefield

[ Minot ] Zuranok Zarr the Uncommitted

Or to:

[ Elf ] [KNIGHT] (Hope [V]) Elzorath Illumirin the Scourge of the Battlefield

[ Minot ] Zuranok Zarr the 50 th of his guild

As it is now if you wish to disguise yourself as another class, you have to either be a bard or a thief. And even then, disguise is not available at low levels and only works 100% of the time (no cool-down) well after 30's.

Also the changing of titles, gives you away, as it should since it's a PK skill.

For god hiding we 'can' remove auto sacrifice, but it's leaves things so much messier in game.

We could also apply for the skill disguise ... but as I said, it's not 100%, with PK power for a RP thing.

Anyhow this was something I remembered to aid with RP.

You could attempt to pass your Human Dk for a Paladin.

A DK for a Warrior.

A shaman for a Cleric.

Another limitation would be the Alignment.

We can't really have a hide alignment spell because, who group would immediately show you of to your opposed alignment.

Although it could work...

Spell "Hide alignment"

  1. It would hide the alignment message from the consider command.

  2. It would mark you as neutral for the Who Group, Who PK code.

PK limitations would work, because Goods are required to not blanket attack neutrals.

Group limitation would work, because Evils/Goods can just decline any offer to join a group leader of opposite alignment.

I don't like it for titles - because it impacts PK to know what your opponent is, it'd provide a PK-incentive to go incognito, which means people will design RP to fit doing it rather than having it be a natural part of their RP.

Also don't like it for alignment on who group - again, because it will create a PK incentive, as you can often PK those you group with, and it'd do a lot of damage to a good's ability to trust those she's grouping with, which is an intended benefit of being a good character.

I don't like this as well. It influences PK heavily, and brings nothing to FL.

Imagine typing "who" and seeing a list of "uncommitted" characters. Not just that, but it contradicts the FL lore which states that every PC is a well known hero in the lands of Aabahran.

I actually offered this idea several years ago. The dynamic of playing someone evil while pretending to be something you're not is lost. PK'ing a human because you know they're a DK or that you're not able to group with them, so they must be evil is an OOC reason to kill. From an rp perspective, I would love to be able to hide these aspects. However, with the setup of FL, it's just not that functional. Even if we hid all those aspects about a character, you're still going to know racial alignments. So, it doesn't really eliminate the initial reason behind being incognito. From a PK perspective, some classes need to know what class their opponent is... we're not talking just for a player's benefit, the class itself needs to be able to prepare or it'll be easy prey. I agree with Pali's points as well.

I understand where you're coming from Mya, I've been there. Sadly, I think it would have a more negative impact overall.

I disagree.

It's OOC to think such knowledge is OOC.

As I said in my previous comment, your character and his deeds are well known in the lands of Aabahran. The alignment which you choose at creation is not only how you should act, but also how the "people" i.e. the NPCs of FL know you as.

As an evil, you can try to trick others into thinking that you are good. In the end though, your alignment comes attached to you as your race. Wanting a hardcoded way to hide it is like wanting hard-cored way to hide your race. If you are drow, you will look like a drow. You might not act like one, but it's up to you to forge your path and change people's opinions. It's like the adventures of Drizzt. He is a good person, but people's first impression of him is his dark skin and they instantly associate him with the drow and their behaviour. Only afterwards, their attitude towards him changes.

f0xx you've made your opinion known about Mya's suggestion, as have I. that's all this thread requires. I would be inclined to offer an actual rebuttal, since you've made a point to refute whatever I post on the forums, but the outcome would detract from the purpose of this thread. we can agree to disagree and leave it at that.

I don't think it's about opinions here. This is the lore of FL we are discussing, and I can bring you multiple examples where immortals state that your character is a well known hero throughout the lands.

There is no disagreeing to that. If you disagree with it, then you go OOC.

This is like, a law in RL. If you "disagree" with a law in RL, what happens?

You have to think about it like this.

Our characters are medieval equivilant of actors. There is no way johnny depp can walk around, pretending he is not johnny depp. He can TRY, but he will fail. Also some of the more pious (read clerics, dks, and paladins) followers are going to be well known as patron/matrons of their respective gods. To expect someone like Anamus to walk around uknown is just hilarious.

johnny depp can pretend he isn't johnny deep, but he can pretend to be an actor.
