Ninja Caltraps Idea to make them useable again

CALTRAP CALTRAPS

Syntax: caltrap

Ninjas have been known to hide small caltraps in their garments. These

caltraps are thrown at the feet of those whom the ninja is fighting with.

The caltraps may greatly hinder one's ability to maneuver around while in

combat and the effects generally lasts a few hours.

How it should work: What if this skill acted more like a thief trap. In the movies when ninjas use this its placed on the ground as a trap and they flee into the night.

Additional idea: Or perhaps make it ignore the flight status of your opponent and make it similar to nerve but affect dexterity rather than hit/dam. Much more useful imho.

Currently I find the skill has become much less needed after its change. Making it useful again is key to the mystique of the ninja class. Even pre-change tripping was the better option if they weren't flying, unless I knew it was going to be a long fight and running them out of moves was feasible.

What change has there been made to caltraps?

Caltraps can't land on flying oponents.

Caltraps hit in 2 ways.

  1. A dex penalty.

  2. A move consumption penalty.

I propose a new twist.

Allow caltraps to be envenomed.

Thrown caltraps brush legs and inflict poison into the leg of opponent.

This poison either deal's (1) or (2) to non flying enemies as chosen by the imms to keep balance in the class.

I seriously have no idea what is more powerfull, the dex penalty or the moves thing.

It is by far the moves penalty. Taking away an opponents ability to move at their discretion is crippling. I mean what is 3 dex to a halfling, or even a fire giant?
