How about another 200-vellum upgrade to make the weapon rare if there is room in the rare count (so it can hold rare sockets). But still limit them to just 1 per person.
Otherwise - perhaps some vellum-created sockets that can be socketed to the pit weapons.
It was crazy when you couldnt find an ember or stsrshard when they were rare lol
Well, these needs to be looked into as it is. Characters that make the vellum weapon before the change still have rare sockets in their weapons. Take a look at Garacci for example, his vellum weapon still holds a rare socket yet no newly made weapon can take a rare socket. Kinda unfair to the rest of the pbase.
The idea is that those weapons will phase out as characters die. There aren't many left that still have those qualities. To boot, if it were on the other foot I bet you would be livid if you had one and it was taken away. Best to just let them phase out naturally.
I think maybe give the pit weapons a different buff (maybe a selectable buff, that'd be neat and would make them more customized) as it's last and just forgo the socket.
I wouldn't be livid about losing the weapon if handed the vellum to create one in its place. They are very nice weapons and not being able to use rare sockets in them makes a hefty difference. Those with the rare sockets are able to use theirs with more benefits as opposed to others.
Maybe livid would be the wrong word, but I know I wouldn't be too happy (no I don't have a weapon with a rare socket lol). Leaving as is and letting it phase out is a pretty standard response to changes, even IRL via grandfathering things in.
Personally, I'm not a fan of them being rare. Most (all?) owner only things aren't so you can have them without wasting a slot in your inventory.
I like the idea of creating vellum-sockets to put in the weapon.
