"challenge" command suggestions
I still think it is absolutely stupid implementing a mechanic someone has no choice over.
The choices are (espescially for inductees 90% of the time) become my malform fodder, or look like a coward. Neither of these go with the FL mantra of avoid death at all costs.
The issue with accidental deaths causing goodies to be outcasted, or lose abilities. Even when it is a programmatic or lag created situation, has been brougth up bi-annually for the last decade.
you cannot imagine the amount of bug fixes imms brought in when I was Kadrinath regarding challenges. I was posting challenge bugs near weekly for a while, and they all got addressed in due time. There is alot to do in a place like this, and I am sure moderating those of us who choose to be orangutans instead of people is one of the things that consumes most of their time.

Did you post on this issue?
Yes I did. Accidental deaths tied into how challenge is programmed was one of my main concerns. The issue stems not from challenge, but from how skills interact with challenge. So from my understanding each aspect of how a battle could be finished has to be tweaked to work properly with challenge.
Alot of the issue comes from player spam themselves. Spamming murder to get an opener was something I did often as kadrinath, and it was the only time I used the quick disconnect tactic to stop myself froma ccidentally killing someone I had no intent on killing.
Wouldn't it just be better to just give MERCY to anyone in a challenge and the player would have to remove MERCY to get the "Bounty" or to get the Kill for a challenge?

Have no choice? There's two choices. Accept or deny.
That is just not a valid point. I can't help but feel posts of this nature stem 100% from IC frustration for a WM not running to someones cowbell. I just can't see this as good.
You said they don't have a choice and I'm just saying they do. Pretty valid point. No one is saying they have to come running to a cowbell or even fight on the terms that the enemy is presenting...but people keep bringing that up. Just because a WM accepts a challenge doesn't mean he has to come right away or come to you at all. As a WM I have people accept my challenge and then never come at all and instead attack me while I'm wounded or chasing someone else, etc. The notion that a challenge HAS TO BE defined within borders is absurd.
What we have now is Warmasters with the assumption that declining a challenge is a horrible, horrible thing. So instead of declining it publicly, they decline it silently.
I don't think that's how a Warmaster should be. If they're going to decline a challenge, they should decline it publicly and think nothing more of it than "I wasn't in the mood, I wasn't ready, or I was re-equipping."
I think the way it is now not only is it an in game roleplay thing to silently decline it (thinking that publicly declining it will show weakness, and better yet, doing it silently only shows cowardice (imho)), but it's also an OOC thing. We all like good records, we like it when everything looks nice and neat for us. Which means, in all reality, it's pretty OOC to silently reject a challenge so OOC wise we can feel better about our character.
Those are my two cents. And before anyone jumps all over it - WM's have always had a choice between fighting someone and not fighting someone. Challenge DECLINE ----AND---- ACCEPT were put there for a reason.
'I don't know anything about warmasters but, why can you see how many challenges they have accepted/declined? Wouldn't it make sense to just show number of wins/loses? Why does decline have to have any affect on it?

I can agree to this.
Old school mentality vs new school mentality
See the only reason you would want to propose this, is your suggesting that a WM gets a negative effect for not accepting a challenge. A mark on their record that says HAH! He would not fight me. Thats just not something I think is needed. I mean what happens when I have cabal warfare and you want to be a dick and just challenge me while I am in warfare? Or you know I am out of supplies, and trying to stock up? These are all scenarios where it is not smart to accept a challenge, yet I am going to incur a negative side effect of being a character who is supposed to epitomize combat, for being intelligent about when to fight? I see 0 reason why this is acceptable.
Also, to any one of you who say declining is not a negative on a wm, you have either: A) never played a WM, or
Are lying through your teeth. Having a declined fight on your record to anyone who plays here at a competitive level is worse than a loss. So I don't want to hear that "It is not a negative" crap ![]()
I find it funny that the same people who want ignoring challenges to go on a WM's record also claim that records are not important and a WM shouldn't care about it.
A warmaster's record is just as important as the amount of bounties collected by a syndicate and the amount of criminals captured by a tribunal. Just as important as the level of malform of that dark knight.
It's something that brings pride to your character, and being able for someone to so easily and without any repercussions influence it opens huge alleys for abuse. After all, that's how things were at the beginning and they were changed for a reason.
What bothers me more is how this suggestion even slipped through, the idea of punishing someone because he doesn't want to fight you seems a bit immature to me, and I am happy by the fact that so many of the community oppose it.
How is this punishing anyone?
Remove the damn "Refused this many fights" table, for crying out loud.
You act like it's such a horrible thing to have a 1 or 2 or 3 under that table. Jesus.

But then what's the point of this suggestion to begin with?

I've played several WM's. Several ferals, a few thieves, and a couple warriors.
I had several declines on each. I had no problem with it. I knew I was well off, and I'm sure my opponents knew too.
I hate every single refusal on my records. Espescially when I never see the char who got the refusal to get my redemption.
