Merchant passive skill idea - Catalog and Order

This idea comes after noticing how routinely bogged down Merchant's can get when doing business with players. They often have to repeat the same answers to the same questions, search sacks for things, travel all over to meet people, etc. I felt like this system would expedite certain aspects of the Merchant cabal and make it a bit more accessible to everyone...and maybe a bit less exhausting for the Merchant.

Merchant passive skill - Catalog

Syntax:

catalog

This skill gives Merchants the ability to catalog any items they currently have for sale. In a manner similar to a Warmaster's "record", players could type "catalog " and see a list of all items complete with prices.

Example:

catalog Oahdh

Oahdh has the following items for sale:

  1. Emerald Sword 1 15,000 gp 15 cp

  2. Major Globe... 1 35,000 gp 35 cp

  3. Arctron 1 120,000 gp 120 cp

  4. Heart of a nymph 12 5,000 gp 5 cp

Once an item has been bartered/ordered, the item would be removed from the catalog, or quantity reduced.

The idea could be further expanded upon for things like placing orders if chars are far away from the Merchant (subject to the Merchant's approval) and a delivery mob brings the item to the person for an extra "shipping/handling" fee (which would be paid half to the Merchant and half to the Family)

Syntax

order

Example (using above):

order oahdh 2 cp 1 - sends a message to Oahdh that Joe Blademaster has ordered 1 Major Globe for 35 cp, do you accept this order? yes/no

If yes, a mob brings the item to the person after a couple ticks and the person is charged a shipping fee in gold based on level of item.

What do you guys think?

Fantastic idea. This would also be fantastic if it worked offline.

+1

Great idea.

Yes this is a good idea, however I think it would have more rp as well as realistic value if the catalog were on a mob. For example...

So and so walks up to Snivelbean.

Snivelbean say "Welcome Sir/Maam whose catalog would you like to browse?

So and so says "Kunhan's please!

Snivelbean opens a large ledger and begins to show you a listing of wares.

  1. A small vial of zombie blood $5,000gp 100cp

  2. The ring finger of a dead prostitute $2,500gp 50cp

  3. A large blackened talon of the Demon God $10,000,000gp 500,000cp

There can be commands like note/app that will allow the Merchant to update it regularly. I think I will find out what this will take to get done I like it. Good idea.

Updating the catalogue through note/app? Please no...

Updating the catalogue through note/app? Please no...

What do you mean no. I am not meaning using a note or app just the general idea. Will be a different command alltogether. This way you dont get there and see a listing of a major globe and there is not actually one. As well as how will the catalog know there is one for sale in the first place, the Merchant has to somehow put it in the catalog for sale.

I thought you meant that the merchant would send a note/app to the immortal and he would update the list?

No. A merchant can open his catalog and update it with a new command simular to note etc... lets call it cat. lol

Ah, I see now. Sounds good.

I added an example of how the catalog would be updated in the OP. Something like:

catalog

Use the same exact code that "affect <#>

spell" uses. Shouldn't be too hard to jimmy something up.

Good idea!

I dont like it. Because this the first idea thread with no negative feedback. So. This idea sucks. Fail fo sho

This is fantastic, good work on coming up with a constructive idea.
