(Ethereal) items

Uh... These don't already occur?

If locate object tells you whether what you're locating is ethereal or real, I don't see how it'd cause such a problem.

Ah, and how exactly does this differ from the current situation?

[edit] Doh, pali was faster.

And no, it would not prevent the original item from "repoping". Every knows an item repops only when the mob is killed. That is when the game will check if it should place an ethereal or a real item.

By about four hours.

Yes, I didn't see there was another page

I dint see the proposal to make ethereal diferent on locate object.

Good idea.

One possibility for further tooling of it:

Item could be a total fake: It is on the mob, and on equal slot as the real piece, but it is not real, as in comparison to real equipment, it doesn't exist: you cannot disarm it, you cannot pry it, mob cannot benefit from it. As an example, when thief tries to steal such an item, he only gets same response as if trying to steal item that's not there. When mob dies, it disappears instantly.

Add in the ability to cannot be requested, and the idea proposed is exactly as you've stated. Just made clearer for those that were still a little confused.

That's not the point of this idea. The point is for a newer player to be able to grab and identify the item, as well as to see where the location of the item is. To be able to wear it for a while to get a feeling of what exactly the item is like.

I like being able to ID it, but not wear it.

Also, perhaps have it crumble in a few hours.

Then I mistook your suggestion. I was looking at it as a way to see where the items were and are kept, etc, etc. You're looking for equipment with a timer.

Edit:

Ditto. Kills the people with only lore, but hey. (Unless I've got the lore mechanic wrong as well, but I'm confident I don't.)

Did you guys even read the original suggestion?

So, this suggestion is about mobs who wear ethereal (or however you wish to call them) items. Such item will basicly be "rotdeath" items and the item will go poof from the mob's corpse once the mob is dead.

Reason for this is newbies to gain some knowledge when they go on exploration trips. The fact that some items are never in is a huge CON and removes any desire to go on exploration trips.

If there are already enough rares/uniques of certain kind in the lands, NPCs will wear their ethereal versions.

We can even go so far and perhaps make the item last like 1 hour and then disappear from your inventory.

I don't see any downside. Positive is that newbies can check first hand which NPC holds which rares, even though the NPC doesn't actually hold it at the moment.

hi all,

I never really post on here but been playing for ages. Just to let you know you have at least one more active player!!

anyway simply get a high level thief to copy all the items and plant them back on their original mobs. bingo presto.

...I want to roll up a thief just to mess with people this way...

Hi there.

What would that actually change?

After a world shift, all those copied items will be removed. Not just that, but the sole fact of blackjacking highly aggressive mobs that are many ranks above you and often carry cursed items seems a bit silly.

Perhaps I didn't get the point of your post...

A non-coded (and thus non-permanent) way of doing what was suggested. Perhaps for RP purposes. Kinda like the Anti-Santa. Sorta.

I'm not exactly sure how the Anti-Santa fits, but I thought it was cool and wanted to post it. So I'm leaving it in, even if it does stretch the imagination.

You certainly didn't. I at least am amused, because I did get the point.
