Leaving aside another increase in rares or the overhaul on items, I believe I've read mentioned. A workable solution to rare shortages I think would simply be to create new items in already existing locations on already existing mobs. Not new and radical items but ones possibly only with minor deviations from already existing gear if item balance is an issue. Skew a piece to have a little a little more of this and a little less of that or just slightly nerfed from the original. Then rename it's new incarnation and place it on one of the myriad of high level mobs or mobs in difficult to reach locations. Mobs that either have nothing or gear so outdated and weak it's laughable, considering the difficulty in reaching or killing some.
items? need em, want em, gotta have em
We've been doing this for some time now...
I think we should have more 'named' weapons. This doesn't necessarily mean they have to be rare or uber, but there's only .. 5 or so that I can think of that are named (and the majority are in factions). For instance, how about some sort of icy polearm, avg 20 or something, named "the polearm named 'Glacier'?
Of course, many other names and nouns should be added too, as far as weapons.
Also, flame capes, ember rings, etc, should receive their progs back. I know they used to flamestrike/flame arrow (low level, of course, but still cool) and maybe people would use them more at a low level. Right now, there's really only a couple sets of evil/good eq that EVERYONE uses.
I think that all the big mobs should have either some sweet *** weapon with it's own name (vorpal, hells fury etc) or some sweet wands/staves/scrolls (if they are a casting mob)
Would just add more flavor, and look neat.
Although the time required to do this could be better spent bug hunting/fixing and building/testing/linking new areas.

In a way, this can be arranged in-game without Immortal intervention.
Perhaps everyone can submit said suggestions in the prayer forum, and the immortals can task player-builders to incorporate and add the items into the realm?
I appreciate that you guys as admins do alot of hard work in improving this game and any changes you produce are above and beyond the call of duty. This isn't to criticize the admin. Also since I don't have the time to actively play often I might well miss things. But I haven't seen any changes along the lines of what I meant to try and imply.
Essentially take a pk viable piece of equipment, for example the spiked light steel gauntlets. Skew it's stats a little, maybe minus a hit then plus a dam and rename it. Then slap it down somewhere like on the troll king who doesn't hold much, the bathhouse which has all sorts of odd outdated gear or blood which is a bit of a hassle for how little it has past a few items.
Purposes being, since it's fairly often that people complain about the availability of items and problems seem to arise from it.

It provides a way other than increasing the rare limit or totally revamping eq in general to alleviate eq complaints. While still not being an overly time intensive change.

It's an alternative solution to rare crumbles on death or a way to lift some of the frustration of losing items that never seem to repop. While I understand the thinking behind having rares crumble it does hit rather hard at people who like to solo, have to solo or travel with insufficient groups to places like the factions or dischord/desolution.
-
It could hopefully encourage people to be a bit more "aggressive" in accepting pk options they might otherwise avoid. I believe a number of people won't enter into a pk situation they're not comfortable with, more out of fear of losing their items than the death. Or be more willing to throw all in in situations they could likely win. In truth it's hard to blame anyone with the amount of time it can take to simply find items available again.
We've been doing this for some time now...
I'm actually curious as to some examples.... honestly. Only I can think of is Moonstone Pendant and Ice Amulet...
Fullplate and Hauberk? Or something?
Ice amulet, Dischord items, discussing some others currently.
What we do is making not so much used rares more interesting so they are a true alternative to the standard decked set.
I would love to see more Staves, Wands and Staffs that are extremely rare that are oodles of fun. I would love a staff to enfeeble that is not level 20 but maybe level 40. Scrolls that can create a Thieves trap.. Wand of insomnia etc. Add only a few charges and reduce the amount of time the affect has. Regardless it would be fun to search the lands for these items and explore their affects. Keeping in mind these spells would be of a higher rank then what is in circulation now.

I was thinking about this the other day, and I actually don't think this is a viable idea at all.
Right now, when you meet a class, you generally know what they bring to the table. It's a matter of class skills verses class skills for the most part, and not who can gather the most consumables. It's different for herbs, whereas those are mostly (notice I say mostly, there are exceptions) a defensive tool or quality of life change.
And then we have the fact that several classes can only use one of the 3 consumables, and then some can use all 3. How do you balance PK with so many variables when it's a battle to do so already? The answer is you can't. While this idea sounds awesome, the way the game and PK currently functions, I do not think it will ever be feasible.
You balance it by letting my bmg use wands of enfeeble and staves of magic missile
.
Seriously, you could give me a bmg with the slay command and I would still lose.
