Something that is in every woods.
Briars, picker bushes, so on and so on. There should be area's that cause a single or even double tick of lag for moving through them because of those nasty thorns on those equally nasty bushes.
Rangers and Druid would of course get the "free movement" to move through them without lag because well... they know their "home".
or even if it can be coded, why not have it cause some damage too? if you spam twice through a "braired space" you can move through it normally while taking some damage without the free movement perk.
This could add a whole new dimension through running through spaces, and make people think twice before running from one corner of the map to the other.
There is something similar to that.
You lose more movement when you move on harsh terrains, compared to cities.
ups and downs blah... -__- I think you should get hurt running through a field of pickers, but if you take your time you can wander through okay. maybe even a chance of getting hurt?
I actually think this makes sense.
Oddly...I have no opinion on this.
Other than it killing my running strategy of spamming a direction and flailing my arms madly the whole time knowing that I'm a dead man......
Pretty cool.
RPly, fantastic idea.
Mechanically, rangers need absolutely nothing. :/
No I know but still, it exists in D&D. It doesn't hurt you but it def slows you down. Though being a druid or ranger you can move through the briars with ease. Just imagine ranger hiding in brairs! ha ha!

Foxx is gonna get you for saying that!!!

However, I do understand now that you plan on restringing to a Rabbit.

I'm trying to figure out how gnarly of a briar you would need to pierce or otherwise bother someone in metal armor... the answer is a spear... and I've never met a briar that size...
There was that story where the princess lived in a filed filled with nothing but a field full of dagger long blades strung wire branches. Dunno, could be SUPER briars.
Ok... I'll live with an area of UBER briars... but if every single forest room is full of mithril-piercers... I'm declaring a deforestation campaign via napalm.
If anything why not just have a forest people rarely go to? Wouldn't even need a "new" area.

Because FL is so realistic otherwise that it would totally break the immersion.
well if your wearing say, armor on your legs and feet (or some form of "protection") you would NOT be injured, but you would be slowed. Lets see a guy in full play run through a thick patch of raspberry bushes. He might even be tripped and fall flat on his azz.
That'd be another neat idea, maybe instead of being hurt the player is tripped and sits down:
"as you walk through the briar bushes one wraps around your ankle and you are tripped falling flat on your bum."
"you can't go that way because you fell on your but."
"you are sitting."
Yeah, but imagine being a halfling who has to wade through that crap... ouch.
LoL, I'm sure they're used to it.
And besides, I'm sure ICly characters have traversed through these kind of things before, and often. It's simply not an active game mechanic.
Hey, I'm not objecting - I like it.
Besides, I tend to play flying or mounted characters who surely wouldn't be bothered by it anyways.
Right, I doubt a horse would be effected much, and if you where flying... well it'd be just like flying over water.
Briar bush attempts to trip you.
Good thing you where flying!
Briar bush attempts to trip you.
Your mount is unaffected.
Which leads me to another thing... when someone goes to trip you... and if your mounted. How the heck do you trip up a four legged animal?
O__o I know the topic was brought up else where but still.
