Make them gate to anyone again.
Make their resurrections count for anything again.
They are unique in that THEY CAN'T PK! Throw 'em a bone here!

Their resurrections count - yes.
They can gate to anyone - hell no.
Thats the problem, they can pk anyone, and very easily if its an evil. There used to be several aggressive healers, that got outcasted. But the damage is usually done by then. Or just fing with necromancers, gating to thier zombies, killing them, sparing the necro, but a necro w/o zombies is at a severe disadvantage. Some people are just a-holes.
Healers are fun.
A healer who stays and fights, tons of it.
A healer who can gate directly to you however, would be a royal pain in the backside.
While some combos can handle a healer, other combos get eaten by a well played healer.
Outcast can be avoided, if the healer is pking defensively, be careful that your not being baited into a chase. ![]()

Exactly.
We do have a staff that punishes abusers, but noone is going to return you the time you've invested in your characters.
Healers do only return lives on mob deaths but do return con for any death.
They do not give back the life on a pdeath any more since it was too stagnating. Chars have 61 lives already.
As to the gating, we had major abuse issues, so it was revoked.
If anyone comes up with some fun ideas for NEW abilities, feel free to post. Perhaps we can make the class more fun again in another way.
I dunno guys. Healers lost a lot of pizazz since they were stripped and now very few people play then.
Healers make newbies smile.
Healers make exploration easier.
I would venture that if healers were made more in to a Qclass and less in to a gimped one, more people would play them and abuse would be limited.
Maybe make people apply for them? I dunno.
They should have ultra cool non-aggressive skills, with gate being one of them. If they abuse it, they could lose their qclass.
Maybe a bad suggestion, but we all can agree we need more healers around. They make the world more interesting and newbie friendly.
How would YOU make them more interesting to play?
Just allow them to gain HP/mana on each resurrection.
Would you play one, if so?
I would never play a healer or cleric... because frankly dancing around spamming a curative isn't my style. I'm more of a "get dug in and brawl it out" kind of guy. That being said... It would be nice if healers got a facelift. New is always interesting. If they were made into a qclass, they would need a new mechanic to separate them from clerics. Psionicists have mechanics to not make them identical to other casters. Vamps differ from DKs. I'm not sure exactly what would be done to make them different... but a Qclass, in my mind, should have something special they do that base classes don't.
Would you play one' date=' if so?[/quote']
No, but that's not because I consider them weak, but because of their PK restrictions.
They need to be banned from Cabals if they became buffed q-races, but I think it would be very cool and helpful.
Just allow them to gain HP/mana on each resurrection.
Heh... should've seen when mystic healing was first put in place and didn't have a stack limit... Pali at one point had +400 permanent to hp/mana/move regeneration. Going from no mana to full in a tick as a dwarf was awesome... ridiculous and fixed quickly, but awesome. ![]()
As for new abilities... how about an improvement to the healer staff skill? Make the staff a permanent item, and have it gain power from resurrections the way a DK's or sader's weapon gains power on kills. It could be given all sorts of buffs at various levels, tossing out healing and curative spells randomly, perhaps enhancing the effectiveness of the healer's spells in a soul-tap style manner... and I think it'd be funny as hell to see the kinds of names people would come up with for a healing weapon. ![]()

Very nice. As long as it rots/explodes if the healer kills someone.

Not sure I'd agree with that entirely... healers are allowed to defend themselves with lethal force if necessary, and I don't think it'd be practical code-wise to differentiate who counts as having initiated battle.
However, I like the overall concept... perhaps make it lose power rather than be destroyed (it blowing just seems excessive)? Drop a level every kill, or every two kills, however balances out well? It'd make it so that if a healer wanted to keep the benefits of the staff while participating in cabal warfare, he needs to balance his actions there out with serving as a healer and resurrecting people.
Can't you just code it to healers only being able to mercy? Then they can't pk and you can do whatever you want with them.
Also, shouldn't healers be like.. neutral? If they adore life so much, why can't the ress non goods?
Healers can resurrect neutrals. They can't resurrect evils - as far as I'm aware, no align is able to heal the opposite align.
The malform idea is great.
I would still like resurrections to go back to the way they were in some way, though. No one wants to be rezzed anymore, except lowbies... and it isn't often a lowbie died. Giving some kind of benefit to being resurrected to pinns would make more sense. As it is right now, a pinn rez means hours of calm with no benefit.
All of the people against giving useful rezzes and gates back to healers are the pkmonsters here. I see a trend.

That sounds REALLY funny coming from you mate ![]()
That being said, I like the malform idea, with the sole restriction that a cleric should simply lose his staff if he kills anything that isn't undead.
I've been pkfodder, not pkmonster, for quite some time now.
