Blizzard may not be the best game company in the world, and wow may not be the best game. But when they have a game that has 13million active players on an engine that is close to a decade old then I have to say they are doing something right.
And say what you will but Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo are some of the franchises I've found the best story lines in. And some of the most enjoyable gameplay.
Thanks for backing up my theory that the world is full of idiots.
Seriously, just because it's "popular" does not make it right. Or ethical.
RE Mali: I agree, we'll always need carrots. But, for the love of everything on this planet, don't make me have to go to 60!
I know I'm a newb lacking cred but I think this game would be better off with a new class then 10 extra levels. Maybe Gunslinger?

Guns don't kill people. Ogres pistol whipping people with guns do.
My take, just to spice things up - add 5 levels. Not grindable but given based on time spent on a character, or perhaps roleplay reward. I would think something like every 500 hours logged after level 50 you might gain 1 rank and some weak to moderate additions(a few extra hp or mana, a simple skill, non combat related perhaps, etc.) This would help encourage folks to stick to their 50's longer maybe, knowing that their characters aging has rewarded them with a slight level bonus to pk but also something out of the ordinary just to show that they have been around a while.
Some might say that giving an avid pker an extra 5 levels on someone who just hit 50 and cannot grind out those levels is unfair. 500exp per level means that level 55 has been at level 50 for at least 2500 hours. When has anyone seen that happen?
You don't need to give ranks to a character if you want to reward their longivity or RP.
Also there was a thread made by mindflayer about rewarding older characters.

yeah Foxx I agree, I mean the current staff is AWESOME when it comes to rewarding RP.
You want an RP reward, heres some advice, get into an imms buisness...make it yuour purpose to make THEIR experience rewarding, you will be blessed with reciprocation.
Definitely against the idea. I hardly like the fact that the game is hardly any fun until 50 now due to the low pb. The reason the lvl cap may have been so successful in wow is because of the massive amounts of changes and updates that happen, giving characters that much more to do and achieve. I've played so many combinations of combos that I hardly can find that same interest in the game that I used to. If you notice even many of the long time vets are disappearing. Those extra ranks without something massive to add onto it will just make things harder and less appealing.
Heavy implementation? No way, it would be very short and incredibly easy. Balance is another part but the code aspect is cake.
On a sidenote, I think it is time for FL 3.0 - A gigantic slew of changes that essentially make it a different game. It makes things fresher and better. I have so many ideas that would be along this route. I'm definitely willing to share.
EDIT: I'd certainly be willing to come back and check things out again if this happens.
Maybe its time to support a pay system?
Any and all suggestions to improve our game and our community are, as always, very welcome.
Well I figure if our staff starts getting monetary compensation for there troubles it'll have a trickling effect down upon us. I know many of us enjoy fl for the atmosphere alone but some of us require a bit more for their effort/further effort. Maybe its time to change the system and I for one am in support of it.
You realize that if you made this a pay2play game it would INSTANTLY die right?

I actually doubt it would have any effect on numbers - if anything, I'd guess numbers would go up. Regardless, the game is free as a philosophy and not because that is the most effective strategy. Any money that comes into our hands goes back into the game directly.
the game is free as a philosophy .
That, sir, is a philosophy I agree with and hope to see maintained. A big reason I do not participate in any other online MMO is because they are pay to play and money is surely the greatest corrupter of all ethos.
There are a large amount of successful MMOs out there that are F2P and do quite well at it. While I agree money is the second biggest fault in our culture I also think a pay to play game can work just as good as any free to play one.
Oh god, I only can imagine.
not going to shoot this one down, but- thats alot of work for our staff.
WE LOVE YOU STAFF!
EDIT: Yeah, you guys got a pay pal thing?
