first, the idea: Make it so in order to get the regen credit for the hour sleeping you'd need to be sleeping from the beginning to the end of the hour.
I know most people will be like NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe it's on me to switch to a different mud client which utilizes timers, but i don't think it should be.
Trying to think "outside the box" which is a saying I thoroughly dislike due to its over-use in corporate environments.
The ridiculousness if the whine threads is increasing exponentionally.
Next we will hve - the murder command. So OP and in favour of melees.

Well thanks for your constructive input. Don't say why you like/dislike it, just call it a whine thread. Good job fox! claps
Also, I might disagree with The-Nameless on a lot of things. But he cites examples of what he agrees or disagrees with and why. Even if I don't see things his way.
My dad used to work for this Auto rental company. The company had a big meeting where they encouraged the employees to think outside the box. This was one of the suggestions turned in;
Why don't we take our old run down rentals and paint them all bright pink. We could rent them exclusively to terrorist organizations with a one way rental. We could equip them and have them go out prewired and loaded with explosives..... Before any of you get offended, it gets better. Just as the car is about to explode we rig the air bags to pop out a real live baby pig, right there into the seat. So the poor terrorist knows, that we are not expecting to get the car back, and because he is killing this pig, he gets no virgins.
^I am reminded of this story every time I hear or say "Thinking out side the box".
LOL. I was gonna start a joke thread about catching ticks being OP. Guess someone else did it for me

I promise you this: You will get better at catching the tick.
I have never ever ever used a timer. Back in the day (about 9 years ago) everyone kept saying there was no such thing as a timer and that the mud was coded to randomize the actual second the tick hit on.
I later realized there were timers. I've never used one. May be part of the reason consumables are around. Who knows?
Anyways, the more you attrition mobs solo and play tag while trying to wear them down you can start to "feel" when the tick is coming. Same with PK though each tick seems to be forever away and it's harder to catch as time slows down during PK.
Be one with the Force. Feel it flowing through your veins. It's better than a timer.
On topic. I have to agree with Reverand Smurf. Add time to your prompt, and keep an eye on it. If your opponent is doing this, and you are not, then you are giving your oponent the advantage. Needless to say, it hurts when you do that.

Maybe I'm just salty that Mudmaster has no way to set up a tick timer.
Mudmaster is all based on c++ coding stuff like all variables, if statements and whatnot but it has problems with variables that it really shouldn't have. My problem is making the timer reset to 25 seconds on the change of the hour, I've tried putting the hour in a variable then giving an if statement that if the variable for the new hour is greater than the previous one to reset the timer and make the value of the new hour the regular hour variable and continue to check. But it creates a cycle that's like diving by zero
Anyone who understands variables and if/or statements should get what I'm saying.
I'm too old to switch mud clients, or muds for that matter
No timer. Timers are for weak, weak, weak people. For the Dark Side.
Nice addition of the time to the prompt, Croyvern. I've been using time in mine for about four years now. Forgot it was even there. THAT'S the necessary part of "feeling" the Force.
EDIT: I use Gmud. Perhaps one of the most basic clients around.
If you listen to music while you play, and use the same music regularly, you will "feel" the hour coming. Heck I feel the partial ticks that go along with cabal armies. And I do not use a tick timer at all.

The easiest way to do it is through triggers. There is no shortage of events that happen on-the-tic for which you can trigger to reset your timer. I have a folder with about 90 triggers to reset the timer...i just keep adding stuff.
Just count in your head when the tick hits, and sleep before the 15th second. Works for me. I don't use a tick timer.

Me too.
As for the thread, making regen require an exact "however many seconds you like" would be an equalizer. for instance, every 20 seconds you regain so much hp/mana/mv and for every 20 seconds of undisturbed sleep you gain so much more... so, if you want greater regen than the norm...you have to spend an exact 20 seconds (or however many would be fitting) undisturbed, otherwise, you just get a normal regen. I don't think this idea is needed, but it is an idea, nonetheless.
I got married last year. Still have a beautiful wife and I work full time. It may not seem like it, but it's true
And I'd like to think I still do pretty well.

The problem is that suppose i set up an ACTION (as my client calls them) for the hour and the hour is shown as [hour] so I make an if statment and a variable for it. Well everytime my prompt shows [hour] it's continuously doing it. so what I need to do is set up a variable to save the old and new times but it doesn't work.
The one upside to my client is it's a dos program so it utilizes different memory than windows programs so even if windows is lagging bad, it won't lag.
I remember using a different mud client when I used to build/imm on a different mud because olc was a lot easier to use in that client.
Maybe I'll just have to switch to Zmud or Gmud or as Valek says, use the force. I just hate sleeping there spamming enter waiting for the tick to happen when someone could capitalize on it and land an easy spell or attack.
As far as RP goes though, does sleeping for 2 seconds to catch a tick make as much sense as having to sleep for the whole hour?

No variables are needed.
It's as simple as this for zmud, prob similar with your client.
Create a new class folder called "Timer" or something. In that folder, create a bunch of triggers for shyte that happens on the hour.
#TRIGGER {~You feel less armored} {#TS 30}
In Zmud, #TS is the command to reset the timer.
I do think that the longer in the hour that you sleep, the more benefits you should gain from it. Sleep most of the hour = very good gains, sleep right before the tick = ok gains with a middle area also.
I don't use timers. Internal clock.
