So I was wondering if any of you share my opinion on home towns. In real life people move, some people with a regularity that denies reason. Yet, in Aabahran it is rare for someone to change hometowns. This is largely due to the extreme cost of moving. I believe we should reconsider the over all expense and perhaps change it in the following ways;
If you are of a race with a racial home town and seek to move closer to your kin then it should be less expensive. Perhaps a cost of 400-500k in gold.
If you live in the town where your people come from and seek to move into one of the larger cities space will be more limited. Perhaps a cost of 800k to 1mil in gold.
Lastly, and this being the bigger change. If you are of an allignment that matches the hometown you seek, regardless whether or not they are your people or not, you may choose to move in as a minority. Perhaps a cost of 2-2.5mil in gold. Example, an evil seeks to move in with the drow, a paladin seeks to move to the elven kingdom. The cost reflects the extreme taxes placed on the individual by zenophobic societies.
I know there must be a reason for the existing extreme expense of moving, such as syndicates using gold they have obtained to move regularly and keep other characters from knowing where they live. But in my opinion the extreme cost of moving stifles role play, even if only a little. What do you think?
