Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I went to see 1408, it was pretty lame, I thought. Really far-fetched scenes.

I want to go see the new Die-Hard movie. Still undecided on the Harry Potter movie. Might read the last three books before I watch anymore of their movies. I hear the last three are the best.

I thought the movie was a poor attempt at the book to be quite honest.. No quidditch mentioned at all? Its the only thing Harry lives for at the end of it in the book before getting his life ban.

And the weasley twins tearing **** up should of been alot longer.. They didnt even show the swamp which was how they left in the book, not with the fireworks which came previously.

Or at the start, Harry doesnt speak to his cousin in the park... He only catches up to him just before the alley when the dementors attack.

There was no howler from dumbledore in the kitchen telling aunt petunia to keep harry when vernon wanted to kick him out, reminding her of their agreement/oath.

Secondly in the book they never found the room of requirement itself, harry used the marauders map to get everyone leaving in twos and threes before a SELECT few were chased down.. The DA consisted of 28 members... There were only like 6 in dumbledors office (Can anyone tell I just finished reading the book before I went to see the movie)

Thirdly the thestrals werent supposed to flap so much.. It was the whole point and noticeable factor in the speed. (yeah it just pissed me off, hence im mentioning it.)

Fourthly the ministry entrance is supposed to be in a REALLY run down part of town.. The phone box is supposed to be pretty much screwed over. Broken glass and the rest.

The detention with them all in the room writing with those quills that cut into your hand.. That never happened in the book. All of harry's detentions were done alone with umbridge and not in a big group with the rest of the DA.

The reasons behind the occulemency lessons were not properly explained nor the allusion to dumbledores army, (people I went to see it with had trouble keeping up not having read the book [scum!].)

They missed several parts in hte ministry... the revolving room. The fact that not all the shelves of the prophercies fall over. Ron being attacked by a giant brain.. The fact that the DA memebers that were there were scattered all over the place, and didnt all end up in the room with the arch.

The fight between dumbledoor and voldermort went nothing like the book. In the book dumbledore uses the statues to shield harry as well as deflect attacks from himself.

Bellatrix does not escape on her own, voldermort gets her out himself.

Nerd. Though I hate to say it, Aulian is right. They cut out a huge chunk of the book, but I still stand by what I said, if you can get passed that all, it's not that bad of a movie. It just really doesn't have a range of emotion the book gives you (ranging from complete hatred to Umbridge to being actually sad to what happens in the 'sad' part of the movie). At best, I just was annoyed by Umbridge in the movie, though my youngest brother hated her, I couldn't even bring myself to hate her because she didn't have any of the umph behind her that she did in the book.

Thanks Aulian.

Also, Dumbledore didn't leave in any sort of way resembling how he did it in the movie, when he escapes the Minister, etc.

When they come get Harry from his house to take him to headquarters, they fly really high, Moody makes them.

The Dumbledore escape scene made me mad enough to blurt out, "Oh, why don't we just make up a new way for Dumbledore to escape?"

*facepalm* What is it with people thinking movie adaptations have to be exact to the book? They're entirely different formats. What is entertaining in a book is not necessarily entertaining in a movie, or vice versa. Enjoy both on their own merits, don't compare them.

So... does that mean we shouldn't compare you to Michael Jackson? Your celebrity adaptation? If they're one and the same, they're one and the same. :)

*smirks* There's no possible way that I have spent so much as to have smoked that much pot (not a single person I know ever refers to it as dope anymore... dope's more often used as a term for heroin now, at least in the circles I'm in).

  • 2 weeks later...
I wouldn't say it's the best movie. It was pretty good for a book to movie adaptation and they cut out a lot of what they could've added in' date=' but all in all it was a good movie. Both my brothers along with my middle brothers girlfriend said that it wasn't all that great because of the amount of things they cut from the book (two of them never read the books). If you're a fan of the books though and don't have expectations going into it (mind you first two movies were considerably shorter books than the rest of the series thus those movies had more of the book in the movie while cutting out minimal scenes and the other three movies after have cut out lots of the book to make it not so long like this sentence within these bits), you'll find a good family movie that you can enjoy that makes you wonder what happens in the next movie (whether you read the book or not) and also makes the die hard fans of the series just want the last book that much more.[/quote'] the sad thing is, id be willing to sit 4 hrs for a good representation of the harry potter books ; I would pay a lot to see that (or I would download it on bittorrent, and act as though I payed to see it.)

Yeah, I'd much rather sit and watch 6 hours of a movie that was exactly like the book assuming the book is good, than to watch a 2 hour movie where it's completely butchered myself. I just went into it knowing they would because after movie 2 it was all downhill in representation, but I'd still watch it all the same. I can even forsee the 7th book being completely butchered by a movie adaptation.
