Repealed: Naming of Characters

Update.

We have removed the restriction on naming who you play in the open forum. However, we will not entertain any complaints of OOC targeting. If you let people know who you play via the open forums, IM, e-mail, or what have you, then you must be prepared to face the consequences. However, if you are NOT the owner of the character, we WILL ban you if you reveal someone else's character without their permission. That is, only talk about your character if you wish. Then again, also feel free to not reveal your characters on the open forum until you are finished playing them. I would honestly suggest the latter, but we will no longer punish you if you decide against that.

This will remained stickied for a week.

Will character denials still be given when asked for, if you post a deletion thread on a character with a delpass?

No, the IMMs will force you to play that character forevermore. Heh, why would they refuse to deny a char at request?

Old denials will not be removed.

Also, if you do not want to play a character, either delete it, or allow inactivity to delete it.

On a side note, I believe character names deleted by inactivity can be reused. At least this is what happened to Odorf. I stopped using him for a while, he was autodeleted, try to log back in with him only to find out I can recreate him but not pick up where I was at 50.

You can't recreate same names of characters you delete over 30. It takes a while before you can reuse them again, though why you would is beyond me, as you'll end up with same enemies if you do, only difference is they have another name by then :P. Seriously though, I would highly suggest people not say who they play unless they really want to deal with people knowing who they are IG.

I really don't like this idea.

If anything, you should give players the option of playing a publically known character if the reason was for newbs or whatever to seek said character out. I understand there's probably a huge OOC population that I'm not privy to (being from NH and all) but blatantly permitting it is like asking for OOC grudge. You may think a person on the forum is a dick - but they're in your cabal asking you to help them get a soul tear.

What was the reasoning behind this decision? What goal is it accomplishing?

Personally I dont think its a bad Idea. Honestly I dont have any forum enemies, I think, and its not like my characters do a lot to anger people. I honestly think that this community is grown up enough to handle this without resorting to OOC grudges. And with the bugs of the shout out forum, if someone wanted to carry out an OOC grudge then it is still possible.

I beg to differ.

The playerbase is smaller in size now, and looking to grow, very similar to the dynamics of early 1.0. While this may be old age and nostalgia playing tricks on my mind, the playerbase never needed such restrictions to control OOC in the past. I am hoping that the playerbase is once again mature enough to handle the responsibility. Still, we will provide you options to maintain your secrecy.

Oh, and to all of the people abusing the shoutouts bug, we know who you are. Continue to do so, and we will simply ban your accounts. This is your LAST warning.

I personally hate you. It's the name! Your a disgrace to Lemmings everywhere. You refuse to jump off the cliff with the rest of them. So, if you ever name your chars, I will make it my personal goal to hunt you down and kill you. Even if it's at level 10. I will condie you before you ever reach lvl 20. I might just roll up 10 or so level 17 ogre berserkers just to insure you never level beyond 15.

Seriously though, just got back after about a 3-4 month family trouble stint. Glad to see everyone is still the same and the community is still what it always was.
